An elderly person who has in fact fainted, will only recall falling and not realise they lost consciousness. A doctor may not investigate any further, registering that the individual fell and not consider low blood pressure or an arrhythmia as a possible cause.

STARS booklet Syncope and Falls in the Elderly (SaFE) can be downloaded from stars.org.uk or for advice, please contact the Patient Services Team; info@stars-international.org or call our helpline +441789 867 503
