Surveillance

Since my Stage 1 ovarian cancer diagnosis last week, I'm wondering if anyone with the same diagnosis was offered surveillance as opposed to the standard chemo treatment. If so, which did you choose? What was the outcome. In anyone's research, does chemo bring on or cause other cancers? Thank you.

Hello mmont

I was diagnosed with stage 1ovarian cancer in November of 2016. I was advised to have a hysterectomy, being I knew I didn't want any more children, and to do chemo. I wasn't offered surveillance. I scheduled my surgery within a month and started chemo in January. All is well now. Thank God I just have to be monitored every three months for the next year. I wanted to nip it in the bud early before it got worse. I hope my story was of help to you. I think you should start your treatment as soon as possible. God speed. Take care

As you go through chemo you can get some sage advice from the women in this group to help you deal with any side effects etc that you might go through. Nothing like talking with someone who has been there. :)

Hi, just saw your story any update? I was diagnosed with stage 1 I had both uterine and ovarian cancers the ovarian being the worse with a cantaloupe size tumor. I never had chemo my Dr advised against it. It’s been two years not w and the only problems I’ve had have been from pain due to surgical complications.

Okay that's good you never had to do chemo. It is taxing on your body. Stay well

Hello I was diagnosed with stage 1A clear cell ovarian cancer Aug. 2013. I just had my 5 year CT scan (all clear - yay!) and my CA125 has been low ever since I ended Chemo after 6 rounds of carboplatin and taxol. I am very grateful to have been diagnosed early but of course chemo was not fun. However, I am glad I did it. I ignored those people who kept referring to it as "putting poison into my body" I came to peace with chemo and the slower the infusion, the better I felt afterward. I decided the more I could do to prevent cancer from coming back, the better. Don't listen to people to advise you to ignore medical advice in favor of the "holistic" approach. And don't be around those who just want to pity you or constantly ask "how are you feeling" with the "pity face"...they are not helpful :) blessings to you!
