I have been getting phone calls from the pulmonologist office that originally diagnosed me in April 2024 with small cell lung cancer. They want to schedule an appointment for a breathing test. When I told them I was on prednisone for pneumonitis they seems confused. Does anyone go to an oncologist and a pulmonologist for lung cancer? My oncologist never listens to my lungs and never gave me any breathing test, and am wondering if this should be part of my exam with her.

Good question and yes, going to a pulmonologist and an oncologist is common. Here's a link for more info on the role of a pulmonologist in lung cancer care.
It's not uncommon to see a pulmonologist and your oncologist.in the US. My oncologist sends me to specialists when I am having issues for example bloody noses she sent me to an ENT. She loves to be consult with others so I receive the best of care. The pulmonologist can be part of your team and help you breathe better. I would keep the appointments and tests and have them sent to your oncologist. The breathing test is helpful especially with pneumonitis. You can tell your oncologist about your pulmonologist (or pulmonologist about your oncologist) visits so it's charted in your medical records. Currently I don't have an pulmonologist and I have pneumonia. I just finished my anti-biotics. If need be I know my oncologist will have me see one. I am in the US and every Thursday my oncologist meets with the hospital tumor board and discusses our cases and the best way to provide the best medical care. Hope some of this information helps. Hugs 🤗 and prayers 🙏.
