Do you feel different about taking part in scientific research since going through your health condition? (Please explain your choice below)

I think anything you can do to help future patients is a good thing. As well as giving yourself a better chance of new treatments.
Not sure what you mean. Presume you are talking about PMR. I have recently had a very bad chest and you might be referring to that, which has nothing to do with PMR. I still have PMR, so I've not yet 'been through this health condition', it is still very active and I am having a flare at the moment. Always happy to take part in research.
I still participate when I can, but it seems my age is a factor….but that is ok because I understand!
My answer is Yes due to fear of potential side effects but aside from that, I'll actually like to be involved if assured of my safety.
Hi. I would never have thought I would be interested in any research or clinical trials, but when you have something which needs more research like depression, anxiety then you do see that you can help others as well as maybe getting a result for yourself. The more we talk about these issues the more knowledge we have to do something about it. Same with a lot of illnesses and more research means longer living time, and to be treated with medications that may help. Thats why these forums are a good start to get you on your way.
I feel research needs to go on even for those who have chronic health issues . Many discoveries have changed the lives of unwell people.
I have been keen to help with research and raising funds for research into my rare ovarian cancer because it gets no research funding from the main cancer charities.
I think I have always been willing to be part of scientific research. I’ve had asthma since a child and now hypothyroid too so would always be interested in helping out what way I can if it helps any condition.
There can’t be universal knowledge without research Have even donated my body ( after death) to local teaching hospital. So grateful for the scientists willing to do research!
Hello Anna.
I am part of an ongoing research study which I joined about 15 years ago. Its focus is researching possible causes of breast cancer (which I didn’t have)
I felt then as I do now ( having being diagnosed with ovarian cancer) that I can help, albeit in the smallest of ways

I feel anything that could possibly help would be beneficial for everyone experiencing the condition being researched
Categorically my conditions change my attitudes to research opportunities. The worse any condition gets, the more you wish you could take part in research. I have three rare health conditions (lucky me!) and I'd jump at the chance to take part in research about any of them, but the rarity means this doesn't happen. One of the difficulties with rare conditions is there is often little understanding in the medical community. Likewise, not many people have the conditions. Both these things can make you feel very isolated. I think taking part in research makes you feel that some advancement may happen in your condition, but also the people researching it understand it. That's very reassuring. So yes, my conditions do very much change my attitudes to research.
After going through the illness journey it has motivated me to be involved in research to help others or help my future self.
I need help with my anxiety, fear, dread, doom, I would do anything to feel better.
I would not leap into it as I did for my course of treatments. I would have to give some thoughtful time to mull it over before making a decision.
I'm not sure if filling a questionnaire in is going to rid me of ET, but willing to answer any questions if needed.
I had a really bad experience as a patient in ICU and I have volunteered to take part in research to do whatever I can so other people don't have to suffer as I did.
As I progress through life and have become increasingly unwell, taking part in personal research a s well as any I come across has the potential to benefit my health and others. It is only by trying to be open to new research that we all have the opportunity to help others as well as ourselves. So attitude is so important. Of course, when we have taken part and experience shows no or little change, it can be disappointing but I’m still trying to help myself and others.
