How do you feel about the pharmaceutical industry? Please explain your choice in the replies below :)
the pharmaceutical industry is run for profit not people. It is massively influential and has far too much influence on research and medical education. As a result medics are being deskilled. Their “armoury” is now largely reduced to ordering tests and prescribing drugs. How much illness is induced by pharmaceuticals? And the treatment is if course - other pharmaceuticals
Money grabbing. They have no interest in peoples health. All they are interested in is profit. In fact healthcare in general is no longer about people. My trust in doctors has also taken a tumble in recent times
Pharmaceutical Companies are inevitably profit driven. Because of this, rare diseases are often ignored due to lack of possible profit. Also monopoly supply of specific drugs is taken advantage of by charging very excessive prices
Like everything else, they’re all about money . For example? People dying because they can’t afford certain medications. One example is cancer treatment. More specifically Car-t therapy. My husband had this last summer. Don’t get me wrong- I am grateful to live in a country where we have access to such treatment . His treatment (talking only about Car-t- specifically Yescarta) was over $1,000,000. Paid for by insurance. But, imagine living in a country that doesn’t offer it. Knowing you or your loved one will die because the treatment isn’t available & you couldn’t afford it.
I feel positive because they also save lives. I think they both have negative and positive sides but the positives outweighs the negatives.
Pharmaceutical industry all about the profit follow the money! To see the influence they have on all aspects of our life. The advertising , the incentives and donations made to governing bodies across the world. NHS has become their servant churning out their so called research, many papers funded by Pharmaceutical companies themselves? Medics no longer appear to be able to make any decisions regarding your care independently. No thoughts regarding vitamin levels etc? No money to made from them?
Not interested in prevention all about the treatment. Treatment that comes with many side effects National Health Service should be renamed National Sick Service.
I worked in NHS health care for over 36 years
The cost of drugs are insane, especially designer drugs or drugs that are still in patent. My brother died because his insurance would not cover the cost of a very expensive cancer treatment and although the family coughed up for one, it was not enough. I am talking thousands and that was the copay. I am on biologics and they cost thousands. There is no way it costs that much to manufacture. The insurance companies need to advocate along with patients to get the availability and costs down. I understand it is a business, but does one shot which I took really cost $21,000? It was new and that was the cost to insurance. I had the patient assistance otherwise it would have been $1500. co pay, monthly. REDICULOUS.
Its priority is economic benefit, it is logical for a private company. But we are talking about people's lives, abusive profit margins should be monitored and reinvestment of those margins in more research
This is a difficult question. People expect to be paid for work, and pharmaceutical employers are not doing experiments etc without cost of buying materials, chemicals etc. The NHS uses the pharmaceuticals when they have been tested, and negotiates price they will pay. As patients we expect to have the most appropriate treatment. I do not see any quick easy way out of arrangement without long and costly negotiations.
I have worked with the pharmaceutical industry for over thirty years. Without them we would be in a very sorry state. The GPs owe the industry a lot and would not be able to do their jobs very effectively without them.
It costs around 2 billion dollars to get a drug on the market and takes around ten years.
On the plus side the NHS would be a lot cheaper, as the expectation of life would be a lot lower, as we would all be dying younger.
Imagine not having any drugs or vaccines. No pills for headaches or indigestion! What state would you be in now without them?
Like many people I am frustrated with the drug companies I used to work for a very famous one and profits were definitely the bottom line Those who sold the drugs were highly compensated Those who manufactured or worked in the office were underpaid and overworked The scientists who do the research may have the best of intentions and dedication but once the drug is in the hands of the drug companies, greed and self interest takes over.
I am grateful to live in Canada where many treatments are covered but even then many drugs are withheld or not approved for use even though much needed RLS is one of those conditions where the best treatments are not covered or even allowed to be prescribed if not on approved list.
The aggressive stance against any “natural” treatments is also greed driven and so frustrating
I feel the pharmaceutical industry has helped humanity somewhat over the years. There are a lot of drugs that have saved lives and helped people. On the other hand they are profit driven and there are a lot of illnesses that go untreated as the illness may not be widespread enough for them to make a big profit. If they do come up with something for these illnesses the cost is prohibitive for the average person. I also wonder sometimes if their power and lobbying inhibits research into more natural alternatives.
The scientist s are dedicated to creating medicines that improve the health & quality of life for millions of people. And there's nothing wrong with that!
Big pharma are all about big bucks+since the COVID debacle, their lies have proved once again, they're all about profit+damaging tens of thousands of ppl as a result of their inaccurate and often doctored data was just par for the course! Pfizer made $billions on the back of their fear mongering and the general populace had no come back to sue! A disgrace! My trust in the medical profession has also diminished.
Their only goal is profit. Pharmaceutical manufacturers in foreign countries frequently fail FDA inspections. What is even more concerning. These manufacturers are given a lot of notice prior to inspections and still cannot pass or pass with consistency.
There are some questionable practicies. I know and agree they nust make a profit. It's the size of profit. The other case was when one company bought the right to produce a common drug. They then increased the price about tenfold.
we are penalised as patients because the drug companies compete with each other instead of cooperating and sharing knowledge for the greater good. Imagine how much better it would be if they shared instead of protecting their knowledge. This sounds utopian I know but we need some ideals. An NHS could then afford newer drugs and the model could be adopted across the world to stop greedy insurance companies and their managers creaming off profits and denying patients care.
I feel that the pharmaceutical industry is a big money making machine it’s all for profit and not there for people or for more research .it doesn’t want to make people get better by looking at them holistically. They want to get people hooked on medication for the rest of their lives. It is difficult for Drs to do more research when their drug is already available so no alternatives. On a more positive side some drugs can be necessary along side holistic treatments. They should work more in harmony
While I feel the worst of the worst is the Insurance industry by all measures, pharmaceuticals run a close second. Insanely well healed lobbyist both and I find no better models to selfishness and greed than either.
I feel strongly that money comes before the best interests of the people I for this reason I absolutely no faith or trust in them .
I feel good about the Pharma industry because it has saved lives of people I know and love. Yes, it is a capitalist industry, but so is every other industry!
