Play!!

My LG is nearly 5 months and never really plays lying on her back or tummy, she’s always in a bumbo door bouncer or jumperoo I’ve found that when I lay her down she cries or isn’t entertained for long is this ok?? It’s probably a daft question but I just feel I am doing something wrong not letting her have dummy time or play on her back??

It's best to give her regular tummy time to build up core strength, we find a round tommy time cushion helped to keep her head of the floor and something to look at. Babies really shouldn't spend a lot of time in the jumperoo or bumbo. Lots of time in Bumbo can cause hip displasia and inhibit their development because they are restricted in their movements.

Jumperoos are also not good for development as they encourage toe bouncing and put pressure on the parts of the body where the harness goes.

Neither should be used for long periods or regularly.

We have jumperoo that we use for a maximum of about 10 minutes once or twice a week.

Have you looked up baby sensory classes they're doing them over zoom at the moment and are a great resource for ideas for play on backs and doing tummy time?

Your doing nothing wrong, my little girl hated tummy time and would just scream the place down. She started sleeping on her front from 4 months, so I thought oh she will love tummy time now. But no she didn’t, some baby’s like it, some don’t. Even if your baby lays on you asleep on her tummy, that counts as tummy time x

I didnt think you should be using jumperoos until baby is over 6 months and can hold themselves well...you need to give tummy time helps strengthen neck muscles etc...you shouldnt be using either of those things lots its not good for them basically. As Seb9 said maybe look for some online sensory classes to get them interested in tummy time do activities on the floor etc

My sister had bought me a little race track with a toy car that keeps going round it and that really caught my sons attention and how I tricked him into tummy time, eventually he came to love it and got bored lying on his back especially once he could sit up

She holds herself really well she’s 5 months in 4 days and is already sitting up on her own unaided for several minuites I’m still trying the tummy time but she will only last 5 minuites at the most before she starts crying or is sick
