Okay, so I’m only 21 so not planning for a baby. I have had a regular period since I was 11. Always comes on 27-34 day cycle. My period is 7 days late and I’ve taken two tests (not in the morning) which day I’m not pregnant. Although, I’m so worried as my period has not come. I’m impatient to say the least. Has anyone ever had a negative test when they were actually pregnant?

Unsure if I’m pregnant
Unser normal circumstances I’d say you’re not pregnant. If you were pregnant and are a week late for your period now, your hormone levels would be in the 100s, if not over 1000 by now, and some pregnancy tests pick up levels from 10 (ie you get a faint positive when you’re levels are quite low) but I think all others show from hormone levels 25. So way way below of where you should be now if you are pregnant. Seeing as you aren’t even trying I’d say you can be pretty certain not to be pregnant.
However, I’d keep an eye on it and monitor symptoms for infection etc and maybe see a gynaecologist if you’re concerned. But our bodies can do funny things, stress etc could have had an impact.
In answer to your question however, I was pregnant despite a negative pregnancy test. But it was a different scenario: I was trying for a baby, the test was negative the day my period was due and then I got a weak odd period. It wasn’t until a week later that I had a faint positive which turned out to be an ectopic pregnancy. That’s very unlikely to be the case with you but if you find yourself with one-sided pelvic pain, shoulder tip pain etc do get checked out as ectopics are dangerous (in my case my Fallopian tube burst and I needed emergency surgery to save my life). Like I said it’s very unlikely with you now but it’s worth being aware of symptoms.
All the best!
That’s so strange you saying that, so on the day my period was due I had a very light spotting and I understand that could be a sign of implantation bleeding. I’ve had a little pain in the left side of my stomach but it’s not continuous pain for it to be anything I think. I think I’ve just read up on too many women getting negative results when they are pregnant. I guess I’ll wait another week and maybe see a gynaecologist. Thanks for your help!
Hi Claire
I would agree with Lucy above, except the first morning urine is the strongest and although you would probably get a positive even in the afternoon after a week it could depend on how diluted your urine was.
I did one test on suchhc diluted urine it was barely a positive
Second one I did with concentrated urine on the same day and it was a strong positive
You say your periods are 'regular' but that is still quite a variation in cycle length so I don't think it's unreasonable to think this is just a one off delay possibly due to stress or another factor ?
I wouldn't worry- but just keep eye on symptoms .. if it's another week late or you get severe other symptoms do see a doctor xx
Hi all! I’m needing some help... I’m on cycle day 28, and my period is 4 days late.. We are TTC, and noticed some pregnancy symptoms so I decided to test.. I had one clear blue early detection and the other first response.
I’m currently on holidays and the weather is very hot in the high 30’s and 40’s.
I had the test for 1day prior to testing myself then, when I went to test the next morning I opened the packet and noticed the result window had a blue line through it, which I expected “dye run” from the heat.. I still did the test in the early morning and got a faint positive. I wasn’t certain as the line was already through the result wondow. 😕 So I wanted to do another to ease my mind.. This time I did the test I had a clear positive. Still no sign of period... When should I retest??
Thank you. 🙂
