I am 8 weeks pregnant but have been bleeding for over 2 weeks. Have had 2 ultrasound scans, latest showed embryo but no heartbeat.

Has anyone had a similar experience? What was the outcome? Should the embryo be so small? Could the dates just be wrong? I have another scan next week, what should I expect?

I have had the same thing happen three times. Unfortunately in my case the outcome was not positive, and I lost all three, but this doesn't necessarily mean it will be the same for you. If you didn't have a heartbeat at either scan then there is a greater chance that your baby is just not yet showing a detectable heartbeat (usually not detectable until around 7 weeks) , but if you had a heartbeat at one scan that no longer showed up at the next scan, then the chances look less positive. Only the next scan will confirm either way. Otherwise its just speculation and guesswork which isn't helpful for you. Fingers crossed that it all works out OK.

Hi sorry to hear about your situation. Is the baby measuring accurately or grown since the first scan? Unfortunately for me in both my miscarriages the baby dint grow and had very faint fetal heartbeat. Keep the faith.....be strong

Hi,

Thank you for your replies and concern.

The fridt scan showed the sac but it was empty, at what should have been 5 weeks 5 days according to latest period. The second scan at 7 weeks 5 days showed an embryo but not heart beat yet. I have another scan next week, as there is progress, just not as much as expected at these dates.

At 6 week the heartbeat should already be seen through vaginal scan

At this stage it might be to early to hear a heart beat your best bet is to wait til your next scan and see . I knw it's easier said den done to wait :( I'm 8 weeks tomorrow and getting my second scan so I'l let u knw if we hear a heart beat. Fingers crossed for you xx

I had an abdominal scan at 6.5 weeks and it could only pick up the sac, but no embryo. I then had a trans-vaginal scan the same day and it picked up the embryo with a heartbeat immediately. I really hope yours is good news. I know how worrying these early stages are. Good luck. x

Try not to worry. Do things to take your mind off the situation. Good luck with your next scan x

For the update, no progress shown at my scan today. The EPAGU are treating it as a delayed miscarriage.
