Baby walkers ....

Looking to get a baby walker but need one that works well on carpet. Any recommendations? It doesn't have to be an all singing all dancing one, just an attractive one with some good reviews. The reviews I've seen on a couple that I've liked say that they work well on wooden floors or lino but not so well on carpet.

I don't have a lot of options to go shopping as we are kind of restricted on the Island so will have to be online purchase.

Thanks

Hi armywag,

I personally don't know of any percific baby walker which is good at moving & running along on a carpet but the walkers with the swivel wheels are meant to be quite good on stubborn surfaces such as carpet because they can easily move in any given direction.

There's a good online store called WWW.bambinodirect.co.uk, which I've already bought a few items from & never had a problem with the delivery, but I'm sure other pages such as kiddicare will be just as good too.

Haaaha,- Its ridiculous sometimes isn't it

Basically they are generally all made the same , like most things just blinged up differently , the baby just has 2 work harder at pushing it along a carpet than smooth floor ! My son did fine in it but my daughter likes going backwards ! Son did 2 but quickly learnt forward aswell ! Baby hasn't & is 7mths old now . It's the walker my son had so no difference ! A mother care 1 , Chico do good 1s at a reasonable price , the more basic ranges I find can b a bit low 2 the groung & not extend up so check b4 u buy .

Hi, I have heard that they can cause a lot of injuries so haven't bought one.

See childsafetyeurope.org/publi...

for more info. Obviously not everyone will have an injury but it's the same principle re new cot mattress - why take the risk.

With all due respect there are many more things that will cause an injury to a baby and it's all about ensuring you watch your child. I stuck my fingers in a plug socket when I was a baby and shot across the room but I'm still here to tell the tale!

Safety is paramount but commonsence prevails.

Why take the risk? Er because I personally think it is good for her development.

And shock horror, when she is old enough, she will play outside, climb trees (if she wants too), play in the park on climbing frames, swings, slides and roundabouts, without being wrapped in cotton wool.

I apologise for my rant but I was asking for recommendations not whether I should get one or not.

No worries, just thought if you were not aware you might want to know.

With all due respect it's not the same as climbing trees when older etc. If you actually read the document you'd see that.

I beg to differ, you will find that more accidents are caused in the play ground. I did read the article and I will be dismissing it.

My 4 yo Nephew broke his arm coming off a slide in playground. All better now though. :-)

Hey Armywag....Blimey, socket, fingers, fly! You were lucky.

We are all carpet here (short pile) so I just have Baby Einstein static activity centre, it has definitely helped to strengthen legs in addition to the door bouncer & I can put him in and know he's safe to nip to loo, make a brew and stuff! I refused to pay the extortionate prices for an item that does not have longevity so I got 2nd hand on Gumtree. I give him his breakfast in it now too as easy enough to wipe down.

Have you looked at eBay or some of the Facebook pages for your area?

If I hold his hands he can put himself from sitting to standing and place one foot in front of other, feeling very proud, he's 29weeks :-)

We do have a Fisher Price Lion walker that he can stand behind but he's not strong enough for that by a long shot so he just sits in front and plays with the activities on it for now. (It wheels fine on this carpet too so no whizzing off if he does try and use it) xx
