I starting spoon feeding my baby which he loves. But now he won't take the bottle. Is anyone else experiencing this? How many ounces should the still be drinking?

Yip tried the cup but it seems to be the milk he is going off

How old is your LO? Mine is having baby rice but still takes his bottle fine. He still drinks pretty much the same amount of milk except about 3-4 oz of his afternoon feed is used to make his Rice. X

My wee baby is five months. I give him baby porridge and baby rice that uses milk but still not a massive amount. I'm getting only 12oz a day into him spread over the full day

Right I see. How is his weight gain? Is he still on track? Maybe it's because he is enjoying flavour more then milk? X

Sounds like you are giving too much food and also giving it before milk feeds, rather than afterwards. At 5 months you should give solids 1 or 2 times per day *after* a milk feed. Your baby still needs to get most of his vitamins and minerals from milk, so be careful how much food you give.

Also baby rice and porridge are very filling. I'd go for pureed veg or fruit instead.

I try to give him the bottle but he refuses it and this is before solid food. I've tried at varying times and ways. His solid food i mix between baby porridge or a bit if weetabix for breakfast, lunch cld be whizzed up veg and fruit, dinner is baby rice.

Yeah they do still need the milk, Hugo is off his atm but think it's due to teething. How much rice and porridge does he have? Have you tried reducing that a little to he is a bit hungrier? X

He really isn't getting very much baby rice or porridge cos we have just introduced the solid food. He always looks for more but I don't give it because I'm conscious not to give too much

Hmm I'd speak to a health visitor maybe? If he is gaining weight, it's probably not going to be a huge issue, and if he is getting fresh fruit and veg there will be plenty of vitamins and nutrients in there, but just make contact with a hv just in case they have any other ideas or want to check him over! Hopefully yours are better than mine, who didn't say when or where to get baby weighed!!! X

My health visitors aren't any good either! They can't answer anything I ask them and keep telling me to go to my doctors

Useless!! We were discharged after 2 visits!! We just weight him ourselves every 2 weeks!! You could see a gp about it, just get that re assurance that everything is ok? X

Yeah I've booked an apt with doctor next week to discuss. That and other niggles. Thanks for all ur posts

12oz is better than nothing u do reduce the amount of Milk as u increase their food but I can't remember how much sorry. ... have u tried changing the formula milk they do taste different u could buy the little cartons of different fomula to see if he prefers another one... think cow and Gate is a more sweeter tasting than aptamil and sma is more richer if I remember rightly... have u got any friends that have older children that remember how much milk they have at this age? Also could try giving a bottle first thing when they wake and then breakfast an hour later. .. try the same in the evening?

My husband suggested trying another brand. We might do that. I seem to be getting a bottle into him at 11.00 and 3.00 which is in between solid feeds. I'm just grateful he takes it. Thank u for ur advice.
