I completely agree with what Jerry says regarding medication.
I have found after many years of looking into this (and of working in related areas,) that the most healing and positive change comes from understanding the root causes of the problems. This can then lead to changing patterns of thinking and behaviour. Some of this work can be done alone, but I have made the best progress by accessing particular therapies. It depends on an individual and their difficulties as to what they might need. The important thing I have learned is that treating depression and anxiety with medication (whether prescribed or 'alternative',) is actually treating the symptoms, not the problem. It might seem scary, but we know what the problems and the reasons for them are subconsciously, but once we begin to be aware of them on a conscious level, that's when change really begins.
I hope this makes sense!
Please let me know if I can help at all. 🙂🌸
I agree with Jerry, best to make an appointment with your practitioner. For self help, and if you are able, exercise is so good for mental health. Also, meditation is very good.
Wishing you the very best.
Furthermore all medication has been demonstrated in studies to provide little or no help, I'm afraid.
Lots of fresh air. Try and get out in the green stuff as much as you can. Find a food bank and ask if you can help out. Get some waterproof gear and feel the wind and the sun and the rain in your face.. Think of things to do and don't sit down. Try to go to bed feeling a bit shattered because you have done so much. Get active.
I am 75. Some of my friends tell me to slow down and take it easy. My philosophy is that I am only here once so I am going to make the most of what remains of my life. With a bit of luck I will get to see a bit more of the world and definitely get to tramp over quite a bit of it. I really want to see a few more ski lifts in Austria and the Dolomites in Italy look very photogenic. I live in hope.
We cannot recommend any medication for depression (or for any illness), because we are non-professionals. As others have said, please see your health professionals as they are able to prescribe medication and therapies which are more effective than trying to battle this on your own.
