The dr won’t give me meds for ADHD BECAUSE she says I’m too thin, and it’s addictive. What should I do!

Hi Paintig,

Sorry you are feeling that you aren't getting the treatment you feel would benefit you, but I'd say have faith in your doctor. A doctor has spent many years training to do her/his job, as opposed to the patient who just 'feels' that a treatment may be of benefit. If it's dangerous to give a particular drug because of your body weight, then taking it would be of no benefit to you at all, and could actually be gravely dangerous.

Listen closely to everything that your doctor says to you, because sometimes when your diagnosis is ADHD, for obvious reasons you may not pick up on the whole set of advice you've been given.

Work with your doctor and follow the steps which have been advised to get you to a place where you will feel better. Very best wishes.

Have you been referred and seen by a doctor specialising in ADHD? It is a complex disorder as I know you will be aware. There may be methods of non-pharmaceutical measures that they may want to try in view of your weight.

If you haven't been seen by a specialist then you might want to discuss a referral with your GP. Equally your weight may need addressing. A dietician may help you to gain weight with an appropriate diet. Just a thought, although you might have tried this before?
