Have you checked on the information leaflet inside the box listing any side effects. xx

I've been taking them for about six weeks now and they haven't had that effect on me but we are all different and medications can affect different people in different ways. Of course, it may not be anything to do with the Ramipril. Have you read the leaflet that comes with the medication to see if it gives diarrhea as a side effect? Also when you first start taking these medications, they can cause certain side effects which sometimes wear off after a short time.

I have Crohn's disease so have on/off diarrhoea, have taken Ramipril for some years, this has had no effect on when my digestive system throws a wobbly.

hi tudsey,

i just read your two posts.

i just looked through the leaflet, and under

possible side effects

common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people)

it says

“stomach or gut pain, diarrhoea, indigestion, feeling or being sick”

for this group of symptoms it says:

please tell your doctor if any of the following gets serious or lasts longer than a few days.

WHAT THIS MEANS is that you must tell your doctor, because you’ve had this for two weeks.

i would suggest you phone whoever prescribed the ramipril (assume a consultant?) because they have all your information and will be able to either prescribe a different dosage level or an alternative to ramipril. or whatever else they think best.

alternatively you could phone your gp surgery and explain. i believe my surgery would give me a telephone appointment, but i think different surgeries work differently.

of course it may just be that you’re eating a different diet in these difficult times, but really, the experts are the people to take your advice from.

so make that phone call as soon as possible.

I’ve taken it for years and years. It can vary from day to day so don’t worry at this time. Give it a month and let your tummy settle. That’s just me though.

I was on Ramapril for a few weeks and I had an annoying cough all the time. My Dr changed me over to Losartan and that has got rid of it. I would ask your Dr to try another drug. Happy Easter x

I was on ramipril for many years but I started to develop a constant cough. It is one of the side effects. My cardiologist switched me to Losartan Potassium. Within a couple weeks the cough disappeared.

Been on Ramipril for several years, no noticeable side effects but suggest you contact GP or chemist if worried. In UK chemists have a scheme for notifying side effects.
