I buy cheap pizzas and then add my own toppings, cheese veg, bacon, fruit. Always nice

That sounds great! Are they big sized crusts or medium? :-)

kitchengardener2 profile image

Just standard thin crust, never more than £1.50 and two of us for a light supper.

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply tokitchengardener2

That's good. I try to get medium depending on where we can get the crusts. :-)

I try to keep it infrequent - so many calories and so much salt. Probably about once a month now.

Spinach because it's healthy. I am not sure the rest of the pizza is.

Do you bake the pizza yourself or do you get delivery? Spinach is good for a topping on a pizza.😀👍🌈🍕

Because of all my dietary restrictions, all my gluten-free foods have to be made from scratch.

bookish profile image
bookish in reply toBrentW

I used to make my own GF until I started to react to other grains, so now grain free - no flour so no pizza! I chuckled at your healthy spinach - which it is, for some - but it was the first major reaction that I had which showed I had a histamine/mast cell issue so I can't eat that either! Fortunately I love roasted vegetables and can eat a wide range of others and make a great watercress salad with extra virgin olive oil and apple cider vinegar dressing. Happy eating!

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply tobookish

Sorry to hear about the spinach causing issues, bookish . It's nice to know that you can do either roasted vegetables and/or watercress salad. Do you have apple gorgonzola salads sometimes, too? :-)

bookish profile image
bookish in reply toActivity2004

Sounds good, but sadly no dairy so no cheese. Diet somewhat restricted but health an awful lot better as a result!

Batteria profile image
Batteria in reply tobookish

You could make your own with potato starch and cornflour. I do it but it turns out different every time. Always edible though. Gram flour is good too. It’s made from lentils. The gf pizza bases in the pizzerie vary so much. Bx

bookish profile image
bookish in reply toBatteria

Thanks for the suggestions! Unfortunately when I first went GF I found I was eating more corn-based stuff and it made me ill (as does rice). Potato is cross-reactive with corn and I have a sensitivity to both. Corn is a pain because it is in everything from supplements to sticking plaster. I'm using an antiinflammatory autoimmune diet so no nightshades anyway, and lentils and I don't get on - I tried lentil, and pea, pastas and home made bread with gram flour- big mistake! So I don't buy anything ready made or even pre-chopped and don't use any flour. (Once in a blue moon I make a cake with coconut flour and cooked apple which is nice as a treat.) When I was just GF I used to have the Dr Oetker GF mozzarella and it was really rather good. Half the fun of cooking is the happy surprises so I like it when things don't turn out quite the same! It is always a surprise for partner as I love to cook but can't taste what I'm doing!! Cheers x

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply tobookish

What about using almond flour to bake pizza/cake/pies? :-)

bookish profile image
bookish in reply toActivity2004

The autoimmune diet excludes nuts (and seeds) as commonly inflammatory and often being a sensitivity for those with AI conditions. I have reintroduced some nuts and do eat in moderation but only soaked first. And to be honest, it is easier when there is a lot that you can't eat if you change your diet completely. I don't miss pies and seldom miss pizza and cakes. I don't use most fats, don't eat meat, can't do cheese/tomato/mushroom.....you get the idea! Fortunately partner isn't a cake eater so I don't have to have sweet stuff in the house and when he makes (very yummy) bread I get as far away as possible from flour and yeast and usually go in the garden for a few hours to minimise symptoms. I have histamine issues and other things that make it simplest to stick to really fresh, real food, home cooked - no additives, no junk, no leftovers. Lots of veg, some salads, herbs and fruit, eggs, a little fish, some nuts, lots of fresh ginger, organic wherever possible. At one point all I could stomach was chicken broth with cooked carrots so I'm doing well!

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply toBrentW

That's how we do a lot of the food here, too, but it depends on timing and what we plan to eat during the day. If the store bought items are completely wheat-free/gluten free, we use the crusts/other food and cook them during the week. Some leftovers for either next day lunches or weekends. :-)

Tom, cheese, anchovies Black olives

Max225 profile image
Max225 in reply toMadmolly

There you are. Anchovies! I have even tried sardines or herring on it - plus onions and cheese with a touch red spicy red pepper flakes.

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply toMax225

Is the herring in wine sauce? I like anchovies and sardines, too, but it depends when we can get them. :-)

Max225 profile image
Max225 in reply toActivity2004

I use the herring in tomato sauce or olive oil. Perhaps the strangest topping I have used was one I found in Buenos Aires. No tomato sauce, a layer of bechamel sauce, another layer of [cooked] yellow corn, and a generous layer of mozzarella cheese. I can't understand why, but it works deliciously.

Activity2004 profile image

Trying to cut back on cholesterol, but gotta have feta if Asiago isn’t available. Double spinach and pickled yellow pepper rings, veggies. No meat, thin crust. Good with once every two months. Sodium is a killer for me. ❤️🏄‍♀️

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply toIsinatra

Do you bake the pizza yourself? If you have homemade pizza, it can be low fat/cholesterol/sodium. My mom sometimes cooks homemade pizza for us and then we can add our own toppings and eat a side salad with it. She helps bake mine with gluten free flour/crust.😀👍🌈🍕

I make my own crust in a bread machine and use non fat veggie toppings on Whole Foods Pizza sauce. Basil, peppers, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, diced sweet potato, chopped kale and or green or regular onions. Pretty much anything. I also add spices.

It's a fraction of the calories with out meat and cheese and pretty healthy.

Yes the smoked oysters are in a can. I really like smoked oysters, so thought I would try them on pizza, hooked for life. I also like pizza with anchovies, but seem to have fallen out of style and hard to find today. What do I like on mine?? Well, there's mushrooms, both black/green olives, spinach, feta cheese, pineapple, chicken, fake other meats, anchovies, sardines, etc.. If we baked our own and had a gluten free crust/flour, then we make them medium-large sized. When we buy them, we just have to bake them in the oven and wait to see how the temps./ingredients do in the heat. The last pizza I had, it was gluten free and had fake meats for a meatlover's pizza. Really good! :-)

I actually make my own short cut custom Pizza :| I start with 2 slices of olive oil brushed, and toasted sprouted whole wheat bread, then top with a semi chili chunky salsa, a sprinkle of Italian dried herb seasoning, and a slice of goat cheese melted on top of each slice of bread. :) Sometimes I will add leftover sir fry vegetables, and or nitrate/sulfate free turkey bacon pieces that I keep frozen in my freezer. This custom Pizza is as my little nephew would say "Yummy in my tummy"I usually make a soup also with leftover stir fry vegetables, and or stir fry brown rice and then I add some extra firm tofu,, :| baby kale, and low sodium organic powdered vegetable seasoning. to boiling water. This meal is done in 15 minutes, and made on my meatless Mondays.😀
