Which beach have you visited and when? Multiple choice.
I have been to Ocean City every Summer except for last Summer because of COVID-19.πππ
I hate beaches with a passion. Cities for their architecture, art, museums and churches are more appealing to me.
These are also some of my favorites to go to also. But beaches are good too.
Hello Imnotright
This time you are right. I prefer cities for their architecture, art, museums and churches are more appealing to me. I am not big on keeping the sand tied down at beach, but if family wants to go nap on beach, ok with me.
I see what you did there. π€£
Snap...me the same, the thought of lolling on a beach for hours fills me with dread,i much prefer visiting cities and learning its history.
The last beach π I visited was Pensacola Beach, Pensacola, FL (Sand was bleached white, Sea π Oars gently blowing in the breeze.)
Cei Bach Beach, last August or thereabouts. I loved it. We found some Paleodictyon on the underside of some beds of rock. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paleo...
Severn Beach
Ocean City, MD, Outer banks, NC, Florida beaches, Atlantic City, NJ
Countless beautiful beaches in: S. Pembrokeshire; Lleyn Peninsula in N. Wales; Northern Ireland, and N. Norfolk.
Thatβs great to hear. Which one do you like going to the most?πππ
Hard to choose because the memory of each is embedded in the context prevailing at the time. Some of the most beautiful were the quiet & secluded beaches of Lleyn, enjoyed whilst being hugely pregnant with twins, & when they were toddlers. Particularly precious are the rocky coastlines of my childhood in Northern Ireland, and the innumerable rocky coves by Welsh coastal footpaths I've walked. Latest in life the beaches discovered in Wells-Next-The-Sea & along the North Norfolk coast, not forgetting the salt-marshes.I greatly enjoy exploring cities, and admire the lakes & mountains of Cumbria & Scotland. But emotionally it always has to be the coast. Even speaking of "beach" feels alien - it is always 'the shore'...
This reminds me when my parents first started taking my brother and I to the beach/ocean when we were 6.5/7 years old. We turned that into a family tradition every Summer. Now, he has children and he plans to take them every Summer, as well and we all meet up there when it's possible.
That sounds really nice. The children will remember those traditions and family gatherings all their lives. As you have done.
Another great poll, many thanks.
Deal beach, because I live nearby but probably been a couple of weeks
This sounds really great! Do you spend a week?πππ
Sorry itβs probably been a couple of weeks since I last visited - I only live a couple of miles away. I donβt visit very often at the moment because itβs usually pretty busy and even then I look for a quieter stretch.
Thatβs okay! We live 3 hours from Ocean City. We usually go for a week.πππ
Years ago, before my mobility issues and before I moved to where I live now (sadly further away from the beach), I used to cut onto the beach at the closest point to my home and walk into town along the seafront. I didnβt care that it wasnβt the shortest route or what the weather was like, I would walk in all weathers and consider myself to be incredibly lucky to be able to do it. I grew up in a coastal village nearby and I love living near the sea. I have lived inland a few times and missed it terribly - even now that I live only a few miles from the beach I wish I was closer!
Coco beach Florida to watch the shuttle take off and visit Ron jobs surf shop on my last visit to the States a super experience I will never forget . Clive X π€
Did you get to take pictures? It sounds really beautiful.πππ
I took camcorder but left the lens in the UK but I took photos . Clive X π€
Thatβs great you have photos of your trip to the beach. We always take pictures when we go to the beach. I have a few pictures of seagulls walking in the sand.πππ
Bridlington beach, beaches in Cape Verde, Spain, Croatia, Vietnam, Italy, Wales and many more.
This sounds like a great way to spend time in the Summer months.πππ
None better than our own Bridlington beach. Walk most days either North or South or looking down from clifftops.
Lovely place been a few times up there and been lucky with the weather .
Thatβs fantastic! How long do you stay at each?πππ
Jones Beach, LI, NY, Fire Island, LI, NY, Coco Beach, FL, Tampa, FL, Lake Onadaga, NY, Tobay, LI, Roosevelt, LI. I guess when you live on an island you spend a lot time at the beach. Oh one more Montauk Point in you guessed it LI, NY
Baycliff , Aldingham , Rampside and Walney ( all South Cumbria ) Can I say hi to the members in Whitehaven Cumbria
Keep wanting to go to Walney - once lockdown permits maybe! Tend to go to St Annes near the lifeboat station to get my toes in the sand when I can. (Living in Lancs)
Hi Bookish, Walney beach is really nice lovely walks , nature reserve and a fabulous cafe so I am sure you will enjoy it . Our grandchildren love going there when they visit from Leeds
That sounds so good! Nice to have something to plan towards. We come up to Arnside and Silverdale and Leighton Moss sometimes, and have been to Cartmel but really not yet explored properly. Too easy to shoot past into the Lakes and not appreciate what we have closer to home. And Formby of course, for the squirrels! Enjoy x
Yes I agree Bookish We very seldom visit the Lakes even though we are only 20 minutes away . We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful area but sadly we do not really appreciate it. as much as we should
As an Essex girl via Buckinghamshire and Surrey I would say every county has its gems and it is easy to overlook them when busy with other concerns. Been in Lancs now for 24 years and we too are spoiled with lovely areas - it sounds as if you do appreciate what you have and know that you should take the time to stand and stare when you can. Don't be hard on yourself. We'll both try a bit harder!
I think that's the problem modern life is so hectic that we don't take time to stand and stare do we. Where are you in Lancashire ? We have lived in South Cumbria all our lives but the area we live in used to be part of Lancashire years ago . We are on the coastal road between Ulverston and Barrow So lovely views across Morecambe Bay greet us every morning
We are in Rossendale - Bury/Burnley-ish, so lots of great hills and stone. Morecambe Bay is fabulous. I was lucky enough to walk across it some years ago and it was quite an experience. A friend has just moved to Morecambe so hopefully I'll be seeing a bit more of it. Are they still hoping to build the Eden project?
Don't you find that we never appreciate what is on your own doorstep?
Daytona Beach FL 1989 Staying with relatives there and also visiting Disney World.

That sounds lovely! Did you go just in the Summer?
Costa Blanca beach 2 years ago
Old orchard beach in the sixties, Fort Lauderdale in the seventies, Big Sur in the sixties, live on the Gulf Coast now, fifteen minutes from the beach and havenβt physically set foot on the beaches for three years. Donβt care for the sand anymore, canβt tolerate the sun, but I do get to enjoy the view. β€οΈπββοΈ
Activity2004Hermes123. Cattolica Northern Italy, wonderful memories. Hermes.
This sounds like a lovely place to go! Were you able to get any pictures when you were there?
Activity2004, So long ago my wife and I spent ten days there, I would think if we had any photos they would be in the loft some where, unable to travel to far these day curtail me from going to far. but the ambiance, food, wine and local people, beach morning and afternoon. And BBQ on board a lovely sailing boat in the evening cool breeze. just wonderful memories. π
Before becoming disabled I used to love to walk the beach from Shanklin to Sand down and beyond on the Isle of Wight on lovely sunny September mornings and see the Cuttlefish on the beach.I haven't had a holiday since becoming disabled.
But those memories I hold close to my heart.
Abroad I like the non commercial places where you find out more about the culture and people.
Ah memories dizzy. I used to work in sandown And did the same as you! Also, I used to live in sandown road in Liverpool and my grandparents lived in Shanklin road. I also had a few friends in ventnor road. So, it seems I have a strong affinity with the Isle of Wight. Bx
Hi,Now that's what you call coincidence!
It's a place that's so close to my heart and hopefully I get to go back there and go all round the island, it's a beautiful place.
It does have a down side though Dizzy. Jack the Ripper is buried in ryde cemetery. I thought of desecrating his grave but I am a good woman so I settled for putting a card on his tomb telling him exactly what I thought of him. I also left flowers but not for him. They were for the lovely individuals he destroyed who were as good as gold and did not deserve their pitiful ends. I led JTR walks in Whitechapel for nearly four decades So I am a great authority on the subject. Also he was a scouser. How dare he besmirch a good city and a beautiful island. Con amore Bx
Hi Batteria,I didn't know that, fascinating but sad at the same time. I love history. It must of been very interesting doing the tours.
I know a couple of years ago the island had problems with young people and there not being any jobs, and I know alot travel to the mainland for work.

Denarau Island and along the Coral Coast, both in the Fiji Islands, the last time, and it will be the last, (except I have asked for my ashes to go there) went in 2016, having not been back for 30 years.
Stone Harbor NJ , weβve been to Maui, Monterey, San Diego, Laguna, Aegean Sea, Gulf Coast, Cocoa, Bar Harbor, etc, no place like Stone Harbor , been going to the 7 Mile island for 67 years with the entire family. Itβs where we find our sanity, awesome memories, and spiritual awakenings , no planes just a 6 hour drive. Going the end of this month π, usually get there 4-5 weeks a year. Great question, gives us some wonderful thoughts Activity 2004
Thatβs a great amount of time for a vacation.πππ
Hello Activity2004
Never heard of any of those beaches. I have been to Malibu, Huntington, Newport, Venice and Santa Monica California beaches. Tampa bay, South Beach, and Fort Lauderdale Florida beaches. Orange Beach, Alabama. Also South Padre Island Texas. I have no idea how many inland lake beaches I have been to. For last 15 years of my working life I designed boats and we always had our meetings at marinas with beaches.
This sounds great to me! I never was on a boat/ship for my jobs/vacations. My mom went on a cruise as a birthday present years ago, though.
My parents and I went to Miami Beach for one of their anniversaries and we got to go to Ricky Martin's restaurant back then for a dinner one night. During the day, we would go to the beach and see the scenery.
Sorry I never heard of those beaches. I was born in Ventura Calif. So I was raised near the beach. My sister & I used to go fishing off the pier at Ventura beach all the time. My husband & I use to go to Florida we had some friends who lived there & we went fishing off the beach at Naples. thats been 16 -18 years ago. I miss it but our friends died so we don't have a place to stay now.
Noordhoek, just outside Cape Town, and I used to ride racehorses on that beach. Last time I was there 1999 when I had to leave because of developing ME/CFS!!!
Weston-Super-Mare in North Somerset is something to behold.
Do you have any pictures you'd like to share?
Happy memories of paddling and getting stuck in the mud!It is a beautiful beach though
Too cold in here to go to the beach. Itβs freezing this morning, happy to be above 0Β°c.

I'm not a beach lover due to congestion from crowds of people. I love the hills and mountains, and architecture of the city!
Lyme Regis Dorset UK 7th April 2021. Quintessentially English and old like me.
Not relevant in UK not allowed to go out so I have built my own beach near to my tub with deckchair provided.
Thinking back I have enjoyed Copacabana beach, Cocoa beach, loved the surf shack, lovely beaches in St Lucia, quiet beaches in Togo, Badageri beach near Lagos, and enjoyed looking for the beach in Madeira, they are scarce! The quieter areas of Jersey have miles of beauty and calm, looking forward to going there again when allowed out.
Hi Sops , just seen your post about Coca Beach Florida I have been a couple of times and visited Ron Jobs surf shop and still have my shoes from my last visit 15 years ago and first time I saw the shuttle go up from Kennedy space center. Clive X π€
I saw the shuttle go!!!! I took each child age 8 to Florida, and we had visited the Space centre, had no idea there was a launch date. My son was playing near the Shack when the noise made everything shake, and my son was mesmerised( me too) its the most exciting experience i have ever had, will never forget. My son is now grown up and still agrees. So glad you experienced this too. Took my daughter to the Gulf toTreasure Island on her visit and saw dolphins and pelicans by the shack we rente on the boardwalk.Happy times!
I wonder if it was same time as I went in the 90s I was on the pier and it shook. Clive X π€
I think it was 91, my son was born in 1982 and it was his birthday treat in the end of school holidays, his birthday being beginning of September, and yes we were on the pier.
I love Benidorm, it's a great place to just watch people, there's always something going on.
Thatβs wonderful to hear! I love memories and stories like that!πππ
Me too. I've been to Mexico, Dominican, Jamaican beaches. But I also like the museums and landmarks as I've been to Rome, Italy and Athens, Greece and loved the ancients sites. Still want to travel but with covid and money being tight now I will have to wait. Not sure what I want to do next. I'd like to see Spain and the beaches or London.
Minehead, Somerset
The last English beach was Weymouth where my daughter lives. Overseas was in Lanzarote.
I saw too much of the beach when living in the Caribbean and now prefer to go and visit somewhere with some cultural activities available.
Itβs one of my favorite places to go for a vacation in the Summer months.πππ
I've seen the Atlantic Ocean in various places from Maine to Florida. That's it.
There is nothing I can add.
I have never been outside of the UK so have no exotic stories to tell. I've been to Weymouth, Bideford Bay, Tenby, Brean Down, Minehead, London, Manchester, Monmouthshire, Longleat Safari Park, Bath. Nothing like many of the other places I have read. #RIPPrincePhilip.
Thatβs okay if you havenβt been outside of the UK for a vacation to a beach. I havenβt been out of the USA for beach vacations, either. πππ
I have been lucky enough to visit Whitehaven Beach 4 years ago when visiting my son and daughter in law in Oz. A trip never to forget as it was a truly stunning place. Whist we were drying off on the beach after a swim a giant iguana came out of the forest behind us and just paraded along the beach!
Thatβs a great memory! Thank you for sharing it with us. I saw a few crabs walking in the sand one year when I was at Ocean City.πππ
Clear Springs , FL, Doctors Beach, Jamaica, I have been to others I just can't remember there names.
But it may not have been the one you were thinking of! It's in Tenerife.
I love taking pictures on vacations.πππ
Thatβs the best way to keep traditions in the family! Itβs nice when itβs seen and everyone else likes it, too!πππ
