Positive Wellbeing During Self-Isolation
What activities do you do during the Summer months? Multiple choice.
I had to tick them all . I LOVE Summer.
That's fantastic to hear! I'm happy to hear that you picked everything and enjoy the Summer months. The Summer is suppose to be relaxing and enjoyable.
Hi how are you doing
Hi Petrina_gmfc ,
I'm doing well this evening. Going to have dinner at 5:30 pm. Is everything okay for you today?
Not really I will get there
I'm sorry you aren't good. Pm me anytime of day or night. This Summer 🤞 we will be able to go and see our son and his girlfriend in Cambridge. We've not seen them for 12 months due to lockdown. Lots of love and hugs Lynne xxxx ❤️🤗💜 🤗
Thats lovely having that to look forward to.
Thank you. Yes it definitely is something to look forward to 👍😊🤗❤️💜😃☺️😄
It makes life feel worth living having things like that to look forward to!
Yes,it certainly does!! Xxxx🌹🌻
How have you been getting on?
Good news I got a letter from the health authority inviting me to have a covid jab a week on Monday!
I feel that the sun has just come out as it has made my day receiving that invite letter!
My family and I always had gone to the beach as a family tradition every Summer for a week. This past Summer we couldn't because of COVID, but we hope to be able to pick up the tradition again this coming Summer.
Thank you for the vote its interesting what people do with there free time
Travel ☺️ To algeria 🇩🇿 Once every two years
That's wonderful to hear, Hiba. How many days do you spend visiting?
A month ❤️☺️
That's fantastic. You can do a lot in a vacation when it's a month.
Yep ☺️ See my family I miss my family so much I get sad because I can’t see them 😟
Take the Caravan somewhere for a change of scenery. Managed to fit in 1 month last year in between Lockdowns. Ps: Not in summer but Autumn (October ) weather was a bit rough at times and lots of rain. But still enjoyable.
That's great to hear. Where did you go for the trip/vacation?
Near Cromer in Norfolk, England.
I like Cromer. Been there twice when on holiday in Lowestoft and Norwich. Crabs are nice there too. Pleasant place for a day out
The site was nearer to Sheringham, but Cromer more well known. Some lovely places near the sea in Norfolk. And Norwich an interesting city.
I’ve been to Sheringham too as that is last stop on train from Norwich on single track from Cromer. It was a day trip there too. All of these seaside resorts in Norfolk are dated back to Victorian era each with pebbles not sand. Nice pier and cathedral at Cromer too.
That’s Interesting Hissing Sid about the railway line. As that must be the one that is next to the Golf course, which we drive through to get to the Caravan club site. Really like Sheringham , good selection of Charity shops and a good view of the sea.
Nice cafes and restaurants for lunches in Sheringham too. If I remember rightly there is a steam train line station adjacent to the single line terminal station for diesel trains.
The Poppy Line steam train. I have been on it in the past, but didn’t go on it in October 2020.I feel Sheringham is a place one never gets tired of.
We have a motorhome which we plan to use this year. If the sites aren’t already booked up. Is there plenty of public transport around Sheringham
As you see from Hissing Sid replies there are 2 train options. As we always have the car with us, I don’t know about the buses. The Caravan and Camping site is based in some woods. And that, like the Caravan & Motorhome site is fairly close to a Horse Sanctuary and other animals. Well worth a visit. The site we were on is called Incleboro Fields @ West Runton(non members welcome) . Very popular site and some outfits got turned away because they hadn’t booked as the site was full up. Lots of different areas. We were on the lower area fairly near to facilities and entrance so it was interesting seeing the different outfits coming in and going out. On the higher area , one can see the sea.
I don drive either. But Buses down that Coast are really good in Summer. Train to Norwich. Then the Bus.
Yes that’s the one and I was lucky enough to be at the station when a steam train pulled in and the engine had to be detached from the carriages to switch lines before taking the train back down the single track. I took pictures of the train before heading to the main line station back to Norwich. Yes both Sheringham and Cromer are nice places to visit.
Nice there! And I love a Day at Wellls-nxt;the-Sea. Too
We liked Wells too, dropped in there once on way back from a wedding and on way to Heacham. There was a nice sweet shop which sold sweets in jars. And little toys as well. Somewhere between Wells and Heacham there is a fish and chip shop that does GF battered fish. Think it may be called Eric’s unsure though. So we called in there for our tea.
Yes, I would live there if I could! Expensive for property. I used to take my old Mum there, She loved her 'Coconut Mushrooms' from that Sweety Shop. Happy Days! 🧓
I would like to live in the area as well, but as you say properties are expensive. So I’ll enjoy the thoughts of living there instead.
Norwich is a beautiful city!
Got some great shops, department stores, Cathedral, park & Ride.
We went to the Norfolk broads many years ago which we enjoyed and great yarmouth.
I have vague memories of hiring a boat on the Norfolk broads. Also many years ago. Also going to a NT small house at Great Yarmouth.
I so wish I could swim. I'm jealous seeing folk going to the rivers/ pools but my anxiety beats me every time I can't go any deeper than knee high in water as I panic.
I haven't gone swimming for almost 6 years because I use a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor) system and parts of the system aren't waterproof so I stay either on the beach or out of the pool when others go swimming/wade in the water/ocean.
When younger there was no fear, I went out in canoes yet as I've got older the fears unreal at times. Swimmings a brilliant exercise and relaxant for folk and this is what I'd like to do but as you say Wade away at the edges. Thanks for messaging 😊
You're welcome! If you ever want to talk about anything, please go ahead and we'll all listen. Always willing to help.
HiI'm quite nervous too. I've been able to swim from the age of 10. I had lessons and my Mum also taught me. I finally.swum on my own when we were on holiday in scratby, Norfolk!! Got a photo somewhere of me swimming with a bug grin on my face!! I went again way before lockdown and I couldn't do it!! I was so frustrated so I will have to try again with my hubby when everywhere is open again. Pm me anytime of day or night.
Lots of love and hugs Lynne xxxx ❤️🤗💜 🤗
At my age, I do not hike. I do enjoy my flower and vegetable gardening.
Gardening is a good thing to do during the Summer. How many flowers/plants do you get each year after planting?
Summer 2020 I had several very large containers with zinnias that were 4’ tall and had up to 100 blossoms at a time per container. I grow tomatoes, zucchini, and cucumbers from 5 gallon containers.
It must look gorgeous... When I had a deep balcony in a previous flat, I grew little tomatoes in hanging baskets, green & french beans + blueberries in pots, pots of flowers on the party wall. (Do you know, the slugs climbed right up to the first floor!) My present balcony is shallower, & I am older & lazier! but have temporary pots of flowers now & hope to plant Runaway Bride & Doppia Rosa hydrangeas.
Personally. I'm not a big of summer or heat. 80 deg. F is my limit.. I grew up in Central Arizona.. aka "Hell's waiting Room" and/or "Fort Stinkin' Desert" So, consequently my summers are spent avoiding typical summer activities.. My agoraphobia hits its peak in summer as there are more people out and about and more expectations to get out and gather... Sorry to be acting like a downer here..
You're not being a downer. I don't do well in warm temps. either. When the temps. go over 90 degrees, it makes my blood sugars drop too fast. So, when I go to the beach, I try to lower the insulin doses so the temps. won't cause too many issues.
Hi Leah
An excellent poll Leah and I chose Go Hiking, especially hiking up mountains in the Lake District in the UK, ride a bike and have a picnic.
Thank you 🙏🙏
Are the picnics also in the mountains?
Thank you for saying this about the poll, Alicia. I really appreciate it very much.
They certainly are, we'll walk up the mountain and have our lunch on top, the views are always stunning.
You're welcome Leah, I love this poll🙏😊
I go for slow walks around the lake I live near. I also like taking pictures depending on what I see while walking.
That sounds really fun. How far is the lake you go to usually?
I am about a 15 min walk from the lake! And it stretches for quite awhile so it's a very nice long walk. There are also different paths you could take along the lake either under ground, or above ground in the open, or you can walk through the tree path. It's like walking through a forest or the woods! It is honestly incredible!
Would you like to post some of the pictures when you're able? We'd love to see them.
This sounds lovely xxxx❤️💜❤️💜
Town walking. Edinburgh Book and Fringe Festivals. Stirling Bloody Scotland Crime writing Festival
That sounds really fun and exciting to attend! When do they usually happen in the Summer?
Edinburgh Festival in July/August. Stirling in September
Wonderful! We have a book festival out here, but they made it virtual a few months back.
We love Edinburgh. We went to see the Tattoo a few years ago which was amazing. Just being there was absolutely fantastic!! The Castle is beautiful.Take care and stay safe
Lots of love and hugs Lynnexxxx ❤️🤗💜🤗🌈🌹
I stay with friends who have a house right on the water, in the summer it’s like being abroad! So tranquil & relaxing, I’ve really missed it this last year & can’t wait to be able to do it again soon when we’re allowed 😊🌞🌴☀️🏖
We also very often go and stay with our friends in Rhiwbina , South Wales. I absolutely love the Welsh people. Lots of love and hugs Lynne xxxx ❤️🤗💜🤗
Gardening across the board , with Seniors and Special Need Children
That's fantastic. Is the garden attached to a greenhouse?
Yes it would be nice
Gardening. Am still shielding so will be looking for activities at home.
This Garden is my Family garden ,it is on my property ,it was inspired for Therapy and cooking for myself , later becoming a safe haven for fun with Special Need Children ,we grow vegetables ,flowers ,herbs ,and a rose garden for seniors .
I live 1 mile from the beach - a very quiet beach with no tourist facilities and yet I couldn’t go down there last summer due to hordes of visitors. I’m just hoping that this summer with more things open they leave us introverted dog walkers to our windswept beach! 😬
Hi
What a shame and I bet most of those visitors shouldn't even have been there 🤬🤬
Most of them came from miles away. I know people are desperate to get out of the house but you really should stay in your own area. I haven’t been anywhere now for a year. Had my vaccine 3 weeks ago so hopefully will be able to get out and about a bit this summer. 🤞
Yes, I saw them on the news, it's so annoying. Also, there was no social distancing . It's absolutely disgusting. I've been shielding/ self isolating since March last year. Just went shopping with Dave a couple of times end of August beginning of September , also a short walk near home but that's been it!!
That will be nice for you to get out and about again!
Back last year we all had sat down and decided it was best to have put off a trip back in the April as we felt there was no point in going there wasting our time and money when nothing was open there!
I drive to local beauty spots to walk. Talk to neighbours in the community garden
We tend not to go away at the height of the summer during the school holidays but either side especially June and September we've combined trips to see friends and family with sightseeing to different parts of the UK which we've really enjoyed. Otherwise it's day trips to local places. One thing we've enjoyed is Open Gardens which are fund raisers organised by charities. These are people who open their gardens for others to enjoy and usually provide a lovely tea with homemade cakes etc There's a booklet which lists the places, we try to get a village or town group opening where you get a map, maybe 8 open gardens. It's brilliant because you walk from house to house and get to know the area and raise money for the charity as well. The gardens are amazing!
That sounds great and it’s nice to support a charity.😀👍🌈
We do that as well. Providing it’s not too hot 🥵. The village ones are really great value.
I agree, costs about £5pp to visit multiple gardens, it's a great way to explore a place as well as nick ideas for your own garden! The gardens vary in size too, seen acres and then a very small courtyard crammed with flowers. Looked really stunning.
We usually go June or September ourselves and last year I was devastated because we lost out!
I continue my daily 2 mile + walk, sit on the patio and eat icecream! Bliss.
😎
Go to the Park
How far is the park from your house?😀👍🌈
About 10/15 minutes walk, about another 10 minutes brings me to Cardiff Castle
HiWhere in Cardiff are you? We have friends in Rhiwbina but our friends parents lived in Fairwater. We've had many happy holidays in Cardiff as a child with my brother and my Mum and Dad, as an adult and with my hubby and our sons. It's fab . The Welsh people are lovely.
Lots of love and hugs Lynne xxxx ❤️🤗💜🤗
I live in Riverside, originally from Birmingham but have been in Wales for about 35 years.
Take care and keep safe Philip
❤️
How far from Rhiwbina is Riverside? Take care and stay safe Lynne
You live near Victoria Park don't you?
A short bus ride
I used to love cross-country, & coast path walking in S.Pembrokeshire, average 5miles. Can't do it now, with R. Arthritis & COPD, etc. Use a walker now, but get out every day - 6,650 steps today, but that's longer than usual. Have also enjoyed all over the agricultural show. I'm fortunate to live near a lovely river, & in fine weather sometimes will stop & start for several hours, with a book & perhaps a sandwich. It will be great to jump on a bus again & see the countryside.I always long for the coast & am just beginning to work out travel possibilities, having realised that I could carry a bag on the seat of the walker. Want N.Norfolk, YHAs have disabled rooms nowadays if I could get in/afford, and to see friends in Devon.
Otherwise, in summer I'm often preoccupied in keeping cool & shaded - can cope with rain better than a heatwave! (On that subject, has anyone got experience with a ceiling fan, please?)
We have a few ceiling fans in my house for different rooms.
The river sounds lovely. How many hours do you spend there?😀👍🌈
I find my physical and cognitive fatigue makes it really hard to do much except try and survive. All my energy is used up in mundane chores like getting food and looking after myself. I desperately want to find a solution. Since my brain injury my mobility is very poor. I really wish I could just go for a walk somewhere nice. I really dislike not being able to do anything spontaneously because I have to calculate how much energy every little thing will use up. Sorry, a bit sick of it all.
There’s no reason to be sorry, Marnie22 . I can help with some ideas if you want to talk about what you would like to try.😀👍🌈
I really want to get out in the countryside, but I can't walk very far at all. I get really sad reading of all the nice things people are planning for the summer.
What about driving to the area and take a hay ride when you get there?😀👍🌈
What is a hay ride?
Here’s a link explaining what a hay ride is. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hay...
That sounds nice, but we don't have anything like that here.
Oh, I’m sorry. Is there a second or third choice of an idea for you to do? 😀👍🌈
I am a bit stuck for ideas because I get fatigued so easily, physically and cognitively. I haven't been able to think of things that I could do when the weather improves. Sorry, that's not much help.
I will have to think of some ideas and let you know. If I can find some suggestions, I will let you know, okay?😀👍🌈
Thank you, that's very kind.
Anytime! I will get back to you in a few days and let you know what I come up with as ideas. Do you like artwork?😀👍🌈
I am not sure if you mean viewing art or creating art. I like both although I am not at all artistic. My creativity has always been with words. I miss teaching a lot. Sorry to have been moaning at you.
It’s okay. Artwork is a lot of different things. Do you write poems? 😀👍🌈
You can always talk/moan to me anytime. I and everyone else will always listen and help.😀👍🌈
I'm not surprised, you havea lot to cope with.Pm me anytime of day or night.
Lots of love and hugs Lynne xxxx ❤️🤗💜 🤗
Thank you. I just sometimes suddenly realise how much I have lost and how limited my life is now. I can't do anything spontaneously. Today I had one appointment and it took me hours to recover afterwards because it completely exhausted me. Thank you for your kindness. It just gets to me sometimes, especially as the person who did this to me is still in their job and earning large amounts of money, while I can't work and am stuck on benefits. Sorry, I get angry sometimes.
Everyone gets mad sometimes. It’s okay. We just need to try and take a few deep breaths in and out slowly and then relax so we don’t have to let them upset us. I have to do this sometimes when I get stressed out.😀👍🌈
I just find it very hard not to be angry when someone in a position of trust deliberately made a decision that nearly killed me and smashed my life to pieces, leaving me with a brain injury and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Sorry, just lots of anger right now. I should keep it to myself.
You don’t have to do that. I know how it feels. Some people were not understanding when I was at another job before I was at the Senior Center. They let me go because of health issues.
I can understand how angry you are feeling. I think anyone would be angry in your position!! He shouldn't still be working, it's just not fair!! Makes my blood boil 😡🤬You are a lovely lady and we are all here for you.
Lots of love and hugs Lynne xxxx ❤️🤗💜 🤗
I am not surprised you are angry Marnie, you have every right and I would certainly not be able to keep it to myself. We are here to listen and help if we can 💕 I know how you feel about not being able to enjoy the summer as we used to but with me it’s my own stupid fault for smoking , not wearing a mask when working as a decorator and working in a pub. But for someone else to be to blame....... I don’t know how you keep it together. Love and hugs 🤗 xx
Thank you.
Hello again, dear Marnie. I'm glad you're keeping in touch, nice people here. Through v luckily finding the right support for another friend, I've just been wondering if such would be of help to you... Is there any/body you could trust to look out for someone who might be the right person to befriend/support you? I imagine someone quiet, calm & capable, who would be able to expand your quality of life a little. What do you think? The exploration needn't be arduous - you'd know over a coffee if someone was worth trying further. Just a suggestion, pet. We all feel for you so much... Re- the anger: don't suppress it, it's better out. Take it out on us! PM me anytime if you want. Best wishes Xx
Thank you for your reply. I am not sure exactly what you are suggesting. Please can you clarify? Thanks.
Oh, sorry. I just noticed in the lady I mentioned that when I found the right person to befriend her & help in the house, that she became more relaxed. It was just luck & prayer that brought her into the situation. I thought that you might trust someone to look out for a suitable person to befriend you & help with anything that is too much for you.
I see. Thank you for the advice, but I don't have anyone like that. I am very isolated apart from my brain injury support group which has just restarted after lockdown.
Oh no, it wasn't advice, only a suggestion to think about! If your medics have finished with you and there are no support services, which seems all wrong, there must be something else for you in life... Prayer helped me. Maybe Activity will come up with an idea you like. Good luck and God bless, Marnie.
Thank you. That's very kind of you. I was never offered any medical assessment, treatment or any support services, I had to fight for years to get any help myself. It took me four years to get a referral to Neurological rehabilitation. This was because my injury was caused by a surgeon who then lied about it on my medical records, so then other doctors didn't accept that I even had a brain injury at all. I now have some assessment going on.Thank you for your kindness.
Wow! Good going! Now don't stop there - tell them that you Need Help - don't let them go until they take it on board! If I may be so bold, I think you would benefit from nutritional, neurological & emotional/mental review. Any/everything you can get! I can't believe that the NHS should have so neglected you... If it's your GP, change surgery! It would be wonderful to hear how you get on🍀
That's what I have been fighting for these last five years. I am now under the care of a hearing therapist, a speech and language therapist and an occupational therapist. These are all brain injury specialists and I will see a specialist physiotherapist in a weeks time. The doctors just believed what the original surgeon put on my discharge notice so they didn't believe there was a brain injury. My current GP is very good. I uncovered everything through a solicitor when I undertook a medical negligence case. That went on for three and a half years but was unsuccessful, but I did get to find out exactly what happened during the surgery. I still get very angry about how that surgeon acted, especially as it also resulted in PTSD which I am being treated with EMDR for by a wonderful psychologist.
Sorry to have gone on so.
I've tried to delete this as it said same as above!! It wouldn't delete it hense why I'm just putting a little note on here!!Love Lynne xxxx ❤️🤗💜 🤗
I live in a mild temperate zone on the northern california coast. Perfect for me. We have mild, cool summers and mild, wet winters. Not much range in temperature, usually in the 6os F. Summer, I, frequently picnic with my family in the Red.wood forest. The light coming trough the redwoods is breathtaking, never gets old. also, walks on the cliff paths above the beach is fun. I can't say hike. At 87 I walk, not hike.
A great, fun poll Leah. I think we are all especially dreaming of summer this year and looking forward to more freedoms to do those summer things we love!
Thank you, Sue. I think you’re right about the wanting to do something for this Summer coming up. Can’t wait to see my Aunt and Grandma when it’s possible. I also plan to go to the beach.😀👍🌈
Gardening, I don't have a choice, say have you seen my garden, I certainly haven't in over a year? If I get the weather [and health] my compost bin is going to get really full?🤞
I start cycling again in June. Last summer in 3 months I rode 1,000 miles.
Fruit and some tomatoes. Roses, azaleas all the thing you find in an English type garden. It's lovely
Go fishing
Loved swimming, could do this before I could walk, no good on a bike, always fell off when going round a left corner, 99 ice cream cones yum, went camping once, in a field meant to be electric wired to keep cows out. Went to loo in the night, crouched onto nettles, then early am awoke to rain coming through tent onto my face. Opened eyes, cow in the tent, dribbling onto me, no more camping. Cannot go on picnics happily as was once stung by a wasp and spent 3 weeks in a chest ward after what they called Status Asthmaticus. I just thought I stopped breathing. These days spend time with my arms hung out of my front room windows, trying to get enough sun to top up my Vit D.
Hey, me too!. Old Dad was once a 'common wealth games' Swimmer. N insisted we all were taught. To Swam before we could walk. So that we wouldnN I passed that on with my Children. Ohh Yes, a 99! I could eat one for Breakfast, Dinner and Tea. Best I don't, though.
about an hour or so. At the beginning of the summer I am ready to get back into it but, I'm the type of person that gets tired with the same exercise routine after a few months. By the end of summer I am ready to wrap it up! lol
HiI love a picnic, short walks, visiting little villages with all their shops we can browse in, I've cream is a must. There's a little cafe in a village called Ramsbottom, they do lovely food plus Italian ice-cream 😋😋😋😋, going to Cambridge to see our son and his girlfriend who we've not seen for 12 months, love visiting/ staying with family and friends.
All my love Lynne xxxx ❤️🤗💜🤗
A picnic sounds like a great idea for the Summer. What do you bring for the picnic?😀👍🌈
Nothing different than winter months.
Short walk/sit in the sun
walking and pilates
How many times a week do you do Pilates? I have a tape to do at home when the weather isn't nice. I also have a Tai Chi tape, but need to try and get a little faster at it since the instructor on the video goes a little fast for me.
I've ticked hiking but more of a gentle stroll with rollator and often visit National Trust properties and gardens [carer goes free with disabled membership]. Gardening too.
The National Trust properties sounds interesting. How big are they? How far from your house do you have to go?
What do you plant in the garden?
Also love visiting National Trust properties and hopefully they'll be open soon. I would imagine the gardens would be as that's an outside activity.
Go to watch motorbike racing, fingers crossed we get to go to some this year. Circuits had put in place plans to restrict numbers of spectators, social distancing etc but despite the fact that circuits are out in the open with loads of space, racing was classified as an elite sport and treated the same as football where everyone is crammed into covered grandstands in a small area. Obviously whoever made the decision has never been to a race circuit.
When do they usually have the circuits in the Summer? I hope you get to see them when the time comes and it's safe to do them.
There’s bike racing from March to November. We used to be able to go to a race meeting somewhere nearly every weekend but circuits can make more money from track days and a lot of race clubs have folded. We marshalled for 23 years and did club meetings, British Superbikes plus British rounds of World Superbikes and MotoGPs. Having retired from marshalling a few years ago we try to get to as many meetings as we can, but don’t do all of the British Superbike rounds like we used to. One advantage of not marshalling any more is that if the weather is rubbish we can stay home and watch it on TV!
We did miss not getting out last year though. It feels like I’ve been shut indoors forever. I’ve been shielding since last April, when I also got made redundant, and apart from food shopping and medical appointments (me and the cats) I’ve hardly left the house.
This is very interesting to hear. Thank you for letting me know about the circuits and marshalling. It sounds like NASCAR racing seen on TV on a Sunday afternoon.
Yes, I've been staying inside the house since mid-March last year. The only time I can leave the house is when I have a doctor's appointment that isn't over the phone/video. It's going to be a year on March 13th.
Morning
Gardening. I used to go camping and to the beach but am not mobile enough now. Xx
I love Summer, if it doesn't get too Hot. Then it makes my Asthma difficult. But, my Beach is just 15 minutes away. So luckily, I visit often. Sea Air is good for Lungs, blows away Pollutions. ☺️
That's so nice to hear that you have a beach so close to you. Do you go every day or once a week/monthly?
Yes, I'm lucky I know. I go whenever I can ( on a Normal year). As long as not to hot or cold. We have a one busy Beach n one, never too busy. The second is my favourite. I just sit watch the Sea with my 99! At present I have Pnuemonia. Again! So sleeping as and when I can. As can't. Sleep a full night, with Wheezing. But, all will be well I think. Gotta be positive. 🧓🤞
Yes, being positive is important for everyone.😀👍🌈
Are you feeling a little better tonight?
Thankyou for asking. To be honest it drains me a little more each time. I had a few hours Sleep, and a read. So I'm not stressing. But, I learned a great deal from looking after my lovely Mum, an absolute 🌟in her final illness. About how important it is to stay positive, both in word and deed. I have seen it even extend life, far beyond the Doctors estimated limit. 😊 If I'm a bit better tomorrow I shall do a little Tai Chi. Which also, helps a lot.
HiI love your positive attitude. Please Pm me if you need to xxxx💜💜
A great way to bring people up right now ,to discuss what they do in the summer as things are now going in the right direction. For me I love swimming with my mum as we always go together. A mother and a daughter time.
Great Survey.
I don't go out much, not even on a sunny day... too lazy, too old, too sickly... but I enjoy watching my daughter and grandkids go out to the beach, on picnics and whatnot, and I get an extra dose of crime novels, TV shows, and messing about in the kitchen.
Which crime novels do you read?
Yes, it's nice to spend time with children and their children.
My all-time favorites are Sue Grafton, Johnathan Kellerman, Michael Connelly, Lee Child, but there are many more I like, actually I'll gladly read any crime novel that has an interesting plot, good character personality and interaction, and is not too gruesome (e.g., Roger Silverwood). I have a backlit kindle now and can read myself to sleep, and I like it ! What about you? any favorites you wish to mention?
I read as well in the summer when I'm out in the garden in the shade getting a bit of sun. Last summer I read my new Liane Moriarty books (Three Wishes, Truly Madly Guilty) I love shopping in the summer. Going out around shops trying things on with my mum then going for food at a nice restaurant or pub, a mum and daughter day out with my mum. xx
If things ease up we will go visit my neice and nephew in Hot Springs. Normally we go there about twice a year. But now we haven't been in over a year we sure miss each other.
I love going to flea markets, yard sales & auctions. I also read a lot when my hands are functioning good I sew & mend things for my family & friends.
Activity2004 sorry cant find this thread but :
The National Trust properties sounds interesting. How big are they? How far from your house do you have to go? What do you plant in the garden? :-)..
nationaltrust.org.uk/about-us is huge and some places we need to stay overnight in travelodges. Our garden has evolved over 20plus years and is a mixture of flowering plants, shrubs and bulbs which multiply and give new plants
Thanks for all your polls. This is a specially nice one.. x
Well we grow veg in raised beds and any containers we have. We have a lovely greenhouse and grow tomatoes, peppers and chillies as well as raising plants from seed. We also have lots of hanging baskets and tubs which we fill with flowers. Last year in spite of lockdown and shielding we spent hours outside. We lead groups for gardening and wine appreciation for our U3A, we are looking forward to getting back with our friends soon.
I love to swim. Hopefully the Virus will be gone and I can find a pool to swim in. Leslie
draw and work with horses, garden and work on fire prevention.
Where do you go to work with horses?😀👍🌈
I enjoy going to the beach, reading, having block parties with the neighbors and just sitting relaxing in the Summer. I also enjoy having ice cream here and there.
Thank you for saying that about the poll. It makes my day!
That's fantastic about walking in the great outdoors and making ice cream. I have an ice cream maker, but haven't had a chance to do that in a while since we have home school for my Niece during the week. May have her try and help us with that soon.
We grow some chunky ones which are not too hot but we have some tiny ones and these really spice things up.
There is one at the YMCA near me. Too bad we can't go swimming because of Covid.

Hermes123.None of the above I like to go out with my camera, especially around gardens.
Spend time with grandboys, playing, teaching them how to work around the house and yard😊
I'm really looking forward to doing those things in the summer.
One thing we did last year was camp out in the yard overnight!
That sounds really fun! Do you do that every Summer?
Thank you for inviting me! I l love love this topic gives me thoughts of warmer weather and all the activities. Many can be done with social distancing. We bought an RV during the virus 🦠 my daughter had a baby 24 hours from us nothing could stop us visiting a few times. Now we’ll be camping in the future just love the road together! Planting flowers 🌸 and vegetables are and always been close to my heart. Fantastic topic look forward to being apart of the group.
