Positive Wellbeing During Self-Isolation
What is your favorite movie and why? Multiple choice.
'Love Actually'. I've looked at life from both sides now. . . .
The Shawshank Redemption . Brilliant complex plot.
I haven't seen that one, yet. How long is it?
2 hours 22 mins . Based on Stephen King novel.
That's one of the Stephen King books I haven't read, yet. Is the movie the same as the book version? I know that when I was done reading Under the Dome, I saw the 3 seasons of the show version and the book ending is completely different from each other. Liked the book's ending a lot better.
It has to be Forrest Gump for me Leah. Excellent poll👍👍
I totally agree with you on Forrest Gump. Really enjoyed it and own the movie on VCR tape before VCRs were no longer being made.
Thanks for saying that about the poll.
Tom Hanks is an amazing actor and the film was moving and so so good. Oh my goodness, the VCR, that's going back.
You're welcome Leah😊🌈
My mom got the tape years ago and we've watched it over the years. We originally saw it in the movie theater when it first came out.
I remember watching it in tape and loved every minute of it.👍
Forrest Gump and The Wizard of Oz are my favorites because with Forrest Gump, no matter what you do or try, it shows anyone can do anything they put their mind to doing. With The Wizard of Oz, it shows how people work together and can be friends while working on how to solve some problems.
Too many to mention. I could say Terry Gilliam for a start I guess
(Brazil, Twelve Monkeys
🐒🐵🙈🙉🙊🐒🐵🙈🙉🙊🐒🐵)
Who is in that one? I never saw it.
good question I love the movie scary stories to tell in the dark 😊
Breakfast at Tiffany’s, starring two beautiful people, Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard ....❤️❤️
Is it the same as the book or slightly different from each other?
Tbh, I never read the book, I was a gauche 17 year old when I saw the movie back in 1962/3 but even then I recognised she was a lost soul who was looking for love and security in her life and she found some transient aspect of that at Tiffany's....but in the end she found it with Paul Varjak (aka George P) .....so all's well that ends well!
A Christmas Carol; Groundhog Day; Galaxy Quest ~ common theme: redemption
I've seen A Christmas Carol and Groundhog Day, but I can't remember if I had seen Galaxy Quest. Who was in that one?
Galaxy Quest is a 1999 American science fiction comedy film directed by Dean Parisot and written by David Howard and Robert Gordon. ... Galaxy Quest eventually achieved cult status, especially from Star Trek fans for its affectionate parody, but also from more mainstream audiences as a comedy film in its own right.
Shawshank Redemption - Morgan Freeman - 2½ hours
Green Mile - Tom Hanks - Just over 3 hours
And I'd add "Delores Claiborne" to that Stephen King list too
I'll keep a look out for it.
The Godfather.
The Krays and the God Father
Who's in the The Krays? I never heard of it.
Tom Hardy played both roles as the brothers notorious gangsters
That’s interesting to hear. It’s like David Canary played twins on a soap opera I had watched years ago.😀👍🌈
When Harry Met Sally; amazing dialogue.
My favourites in no particular order. A Christmas Carol, It's a Wonderful Life, Spartacus, and Pretty Woman.
Who was in Spartacus? I don't remember seeing previews for it on TV or when I would go to the movie theaters.
Kirk Douglas was Spartacus and Jean Simmons was his leading lady. Laurence Olivier, Peter Ustimov and Charles Laughton also star in this classic film. Usually on TV around Xmas/New Year and I've recorded it.
I used to very much like Igmar Bergman films, but never see them offered now...
Forrest reminds me of my uncle who passed away
It's one of the Tom Hanks movies that I really enjoyed when it came out.
Dirty dancing, Pretty Woman, Ghost, Harry Potter to name a few
I love Barbra in Funny Girl and Hello Dolly
"As Good As It Gets" I like Jack Nicholson and it has to do with his struggle with OCD.
I love all the Alfred Hitchcock films as well!
Pretty Woman
Brokeback Mountain. I seem to gravitate toward tearjerkers.😭
Spaghetti Westerns, like The Good The Bad and The Ugly, also 2nd World War ones, such as the Dirty Dozen, maybe the best was The Longest Day.
The Sandlot
"Once upon a time in the West" Sergio Leone spaghetti western masterpiece. The start with Jack Elam, Woody Strode and Charles Bronson at the railway station, OOH! the music by the late great Ennio Morricone, operafantastic!! The scenery!! "Harmonica"
if you have not seen it? WHY NOT????
I have too many to choose from, reckon at least 6 tie as winners!
Duck You, Sucker. Great acting by Coburn and Steiger. Action, comedy, great music by Morricone. A bit rough in the first few minutes, but it is very engaging afterwards. Not pretentious and entertaining. I can watch it again and again.
My favorite is Seven Brides For Seven Brothers. Next is Sound of Music. And Singing in the Rain. I love musicals.
I love Seven Brides For Seven Brothers. My next favorites are Sound Of Music and Sing' in the Rain. I love musicals.
I couldn't stand The Sound of Music until I saw it in a theater as it was meant to be seen. Dull and treacly no more, it was breathtaking!
The Wizard of Oz is a favorite, because it is such a remarkable adventure, that is cast well, and is done well, in this 🎥 movie! The Sound of Music is such a well written musical, and Julie Andrews is perfect in her role. In the movie! The movie is well done, The story of the Von Trapp family is absolutely amazing!
wow .... WAY too many fav's to just name 1!!!

Forest Gump is a classic.
I enjoy my musicals as they have a way with bringing you up as you suddenly start singing along with them.
I also enjoy the X-Men film Franchise it is definitely one of my favorites probably because I feel I can relate because I was born different with small different ears (Mosaicism).
Great Survey. xx
Thank you for saying that about the poll. Much appreciated!😀👍🌈
I saw the X-Men movies with my family a few years ago when they were in the theaters.😀👍🌈
Skyfall. Best Bond film
Mine are all fairly obscure, Moontrap, The Quiet Man, Silent Running. Christine.
Is Christine the same as the book?😀👍🌈
That's good to know! Thank you for letting us know. I will have to find the time to check it out when it's possible and see if I can watch it either on DVD or regular TV stations.
That's one song she does I really like listening to when sung.
This is a great list of movies! Thank you for letting us know. Did you see Joker in the theater or on DVD?
I like adventure films like Raiders of the Lost Ark and Star Wars (saw the last one with my grandson) and all time favourite was the Sound of Music. I saw that on a first date in the 60s and loved everything about it.
That’s fantastic to hear. I saw the Raiders of the Lost Ark and a few of the Star Wars movies with my family and a best friend from my high school years.😀👍🌈
That’s fantastic to hear, Hidden ! Was the movie exactly like the book?😀👍🌈
Hey Activity,
I would love if you could teach me how to copy a screen name as a hyperlink when you post. (Like you did with "Jerry".)
Thanks!
Okay, what you do for turning a Username blue is: Click on the at symbol ( @) and then add the person's name right next to the at symbol with no spaces. Example: Hidden Hope this helps!
Activity2004 !!
I did it! Thank you. Rah-rah-rah!!
(This has driven me crazy forever.)
If you're Irish (I am not, but married to one American Irish) you may enjoy it a wee bit more. My wife explained the car ride scene as a metaphore; the girl being the Motherland. This will make sense once you see it.
Another favorite of mine: The Ruling Class. Clever movie.
Hi Max,
I'm getting to this post a bit late, and the comments are a bit jumbled. What movie were you talking about, saying "car ride scene as a metaphore"?
Thanks!
That’s fantastic! I like when books/movies are that way and the ending is close to the same way as each other.😀👍🌈
You’ve Got Mail? I may be wrong, but I’m not totally sure if this is the correct movie with Meg Ryan.😀👍🌈
Here is two definitely not on your list a classic oldie "Metropolis" by Fritz Lang a black and white sci-fi epic from 1927 150 minutes AND "Untouchable" a French comedy by Eric Toledano and Oliver Nakache from 2011 107 minutes [brilliant!]
TREASURE OF SIERRA MADRE (BOGART)😛
The only film I ever walked out of is the sound of music. My bests were jean de fleurette and manon des sources. Bx
Hey Luna,
Sleepless in Seattle is, more-or-less, a remake of An Affair to Remember (A much older film). If you like Sleepless, you may enjoy Affair. Warning though. Bring a BIG box of Kleenex.
I'm getting here late, but this is a wonderful post and I have to contribute. I've got a long list, but I'll pick just a few.
The Americanization of Emily, Only Angels Have Wings, The Philadelphia Story, The Bridge on the River Kwai. Oh ya, and Ratatouille.
If we get to include shorts, I must add Bilby from Dreamworks. I can watch it over and over. It remains one of the best films I've ever seen about facing our fears, standing, and friendship.
It was too sickly sweet. Not my cup of tea. Bx
