wholemeal breadsandwiches and fresh fruit such as apple chunks and grapes. Apple juice to drink

Activity2004 profile image

That sounds great! I love eating apples and grapes when I can get them.😀👍🌈

PatsyIpswich profile image
PatsyIpswich in reply toActivity2004

we havent been out with a picnic since COVID but we used to pick up a meal deal from Tesco which included sandwiches, a little bag of chopped apple and grapes plus a drink for £3 each.

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply toPatsyIpswich

That sounds like a wonderful idea and deal. When it's possible, I will have to see if a store near my house has a deal like that and go to the closest park to do a picnic. :-)

I could only eat watermelon and drink lemonade due to allergies. I would maybe take a ham or beef sandwich.

Well let's see, you are on Scotland and I am in USA, how about we meet in the middle? :)

Is anyone even allowed to have picnics yet? How about some, not so healthy like, hot dogs and hamburgers? Grand kids like to roast hot dogs. :)

Anything you like for picnics is allowed to be listed/mentioned.😀👍🌈

Fruit. And I’ve got a thing about egg sandwiches—- only ever eat them on a picnic or as a snack when travelling long distance.

It has to be Butterkist Toffee. In my defence your honour I am underweight!

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply toBecksagogo

Awe! That is totally okay if you want those flavors. I like certain flavors of popcorn as long as they have certain ingredients that I'm allowed to have mixed in with the popcorn itself. :-)

I use good old white processed flour. Buttermilk instead of milk. Can’t scrimp on the cholesterol! 😁❤️🏄‍♀️

That sounds good. Did your doctor suggest a low cholesterol diet?😀👍🌈

Isinatra profile image

I haven’t eaten like that in decades, but that was the fare we had as a family of six for a picnic. I wised up up about cholesterol in my twenties. ❤️🏄‍♀️

Dear Activity2004,

I would take Sandwiches made with Wholemeal, or Granary, Bread- containing Meat, Cheese... maybe egg mayonnaise, maybe. I might take wraps, either made myself or bought, I ' found' a lovely Hoisin Duck one once. Drink wise? well anything really, usually 'Cold', unless it's a Cold day- or it's an Inside Picnic. (I remember 'arguing', with someone, that it 'Can't Be A Picnic If It's In Doors). If I'm at the Coast then it might be Sea Food based, especially if there is a 'Tubby Issacs' (or similar) close by.

I have eaten Avocado dishes, a few times, but not really by Choice.... someone else's picnic and I'm Never 'Rude', if someone has made the Effort. (Honey & Marmite Glazed, 'Pigs Trotters'.... a family favourite😝😝😬🤢🤮......'Thank you, So kind!)

I'm almost 'tempted', to ask, What's a Picnic.... rather like What's a Cinema, Theatre, Pub, Café.....😢😭😭😭.

The sweetcorn loaf is made with

1 red onion, finely chopped

1x7oz (200g) tinned corn. Drained

4 oz ( 125 g) cashew nuts, Ground.

1 carrot grated,

1 Apple cored and grated

2oz ( 50g) wholemeal breadcrumbs 2oz (50g) porridge oats,

2 tsps mixed herbs

2 eggs, beaten

1 teaspoon bouillon powder

Salt and pepper if desired.

Method

Pre heat oven to gas mark 6 or electric oven to 200 degrees C or 400 degrees F.

Method

I use the Sharp blade on the processor to grind the cashews then add the sweet corn for a quick grind, add the chopped onion, the grated carrot 🥕, Chopped Apple 🍏, and mix all in processor. Then I transfer all to a big baking bowl and add the breadcrumbs, oats, stirring it altogether. And add the beaten eggs, chopped herbs. And bouillon powder ( I use a knorr chicken stock cube mixed in a little water) . Blend all well together and put into an oven proof bowl lined with baking paper.) the mixture should be quite moist

I use a lined 2 lb loaf tin. ) bake for 40 mins.

I use fresh herbs, so add more than the recipe says.

There method is add everything to a large bowl and mix. .

Any questions welcome
