What activities do you do on snow day... - Positive Wellbein...
Positive Wellbeing During Self-Isolation
What activities do you do on snow days? Multiple choice poll.
Go for a walk.
That's a great idea. How far do you go when it is snowing?
Depends really. About 2-3 miles. Still in lockdown so can’t really go far.
When it's a snow day, I do some reading and catching up on some e-mail messages. I also try to call/send messages to my friends to see how they're doing.
Drink wine and watch movies. Come to think of, I do that when it does not snow as well.
What movies do you watch on snowy days and also when it's not snowing? My favorite is Forrest Gump.
I like all types.Older classics like Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday, musicals like Seven brides for seven brothers also modern romances like sleepless in Seattle or you've got mail and I like mamma mia and my big fat greek wedding.
I like those as well. Haven't seen them in a while, but I will have to go through my movie collection and see if I can find them. Great idea!
The King and I and A Dogs Purpose are my two favourite films.
Yes, I like The King And I too but I haven't seen a Dogs Purpose.Hope it's not sad.Watched Hattchi A Dogs Tale and My Dog Skip before we got a dog, and cried like a baby.Don't think I could ever watch them again now we have our little dog.
Oh it's a beautiful film and a bit sad. I cry at the drop of a hat. My sister and I like Blood Brothers and the King and I on the stage but she gets embarrassed because I cry my way through both !
I know! I love dog films but cry, and then my eyes are swollen, and I get a headache and then I think why did I watch that movie again? when I knew I would end up with a headache?
We went to the pictures twice while on holiday a couple of years ago to see mama mia 2.I'd cried the first time when I knew Meryl Streep had died, then we went again because my daughter loved it so much. This time I was trying to control the crying almost from the beginning because I knew what was coming.I think what got me was the daughter going through having a baby without her mother there.Heartbreaking.I've not watched it since.
I actually saw Forrest in a movie theater (Those were the days). I got rid of Netflix; got Criterion instead. So, I’m binging on classics and so-called “art cinema”. Some it’s good, many are mediocre. Like the 1980’s and forward Japanese and Korean movies. I see where Tarantino got the stuff.
Stay at home and keep warm is about as active as I get during snow stormy days!
Go for a walk - love the snow ❄️
How far do you go for the walks when it's snowing?
Our usual daily walk, around the top of our village hill which is aprox 1hr, depending on the weather. Normally we would walk up the hill from the village, and then along the top and back down, through the village and home, but have got lung problem at the moment, so can’t do uphill and have to stay on fairly level ground.
Also snuggling watching favourite film
Take the dog out, we enjoy snow.
That's good! How far do you go in snowy weather?
We go to a nearby woodland area which is about 180 acres. I know it well so feel safe covering a fair distance without worrying what we are stepping into. Usually for about an hour in snow then home for a hot chocolate and a tripe stick. The tripe stick is for my dog!
Activity2004.Hermes123. At my age stay in doors and try to stay warm. Hermes.
Still no snow here.
That's good to hear! What have the temperatures been lately?
Snuggled down watching tv.
What shows do you watch on snowy days?
The oldish black and white films 1930 to 1960 's on channel 81
Jo. 😊
That's great! What are the titles of the movies?
There are plenty of crime stories .... Late 50's early 60's.Murder mysteries, with Edgar Lustgarten final remark about the
murderers 8 am walk. & Scotland yard stories .......
J😊

I fill my time in by tidying out drawers and files then do shredding. I also clear other cluttered places and put useful items on one side for when the charity shop opens after lock down has ended.
That's a great idea for snow days. I did a little rearranging of my things in my bedroom recently when we had some snow come here earlier during the week.
Hello glo42
At the rate lock-down is going, you will be able to open your own charity shop.
Read, catch up on tv programs, sit by the log burner
Take our rescue dog for a walk as she adores the snow and I love it ahe it first snows. She is hilarious as she often loses her ball in deep snow a d sticks her hairy muzzle in the snow in an effort to reach her ball the snow sticks to it and she looks like she is a black dog but with a white beard.
This sounds so cute! Thank you for saying this! She sounds like she really enjoys being outside even in the snow. Does she ever have you help her find the toy balls?
If she can't find them she will run around trying to see where it has gone. She will suddenly stop a look at me intensely as though to say "help me Mom" and I will point to where I think it is hidden and she goes off in that direction to find it. We didn't take one today as it was very wet here and the park was muddy. Along came another one with a squeaky ball and she pinched it andcwme runnung back with it and put it at my feet to throw so fortunately I was able to give it back.
Try to get out for our walk as usual. Then batch cook for freezer.
None of the above for me Leah, it would be batch cooking meals. Also going out for a walk if safe ie. not icy otherwise exercise indoors.👍😊
Hello crazyfitness
Good idea, I slipped on ice and broke my finger a week ago.
Oh no, I hope your finger is healing well🙏🙏
Hello crazyfitness
Actually it does not feel to bad. Only thing that bothers me is I take forever to heal broken bones. Broke a leg and would not heal, I was 8 months in full leg cast. I did not have walker cast and in wheel chair. My heart goes out to anyone who has to spend much time in sling collapsible wheelchair.
I'm glad it doesn't feel too bad. Oh my goodness you do take a long time to heal. I agree, feel for those that are in a wheelchair.
Take care🙏
Ouch! that hurts to think about it
Hello Skylane2
The wheelchair sling that one sits in, wraps around your hips and hurt worse than my broken leg. I would suggest a piece of plywood and cushion to put in sling to take load off your hips. My hips were so numb from sitting in wheel chair I use to drag myself out and sit on floor. Blessings.
Doing exercise indoors on snowy/bad weather days is a great idea. I walk up and down the steps during the day regularly, but I do more of the up and down the steps during snowy days the most since I don't want to get too cramped up from sitting too long. I also don't want to go out and fall. With bad/no depth perception, I don't know how far I am from an icy patch.
Oh walking up and down the stairs is one of the best exercises. Sitting for too long isn't good for you, we need to keep the joints going as much as possible.👍👍
Go for a walk. Rarely snows where I live.
I use the snowblower to clear my 350 foot driveway.
This is good! My parents and a neighbor of mine own snow blowers. The one issue I have with the one we have is, the battery seems to drain too fast when it's been used for one hour.
Enjoy the wood-stove.
Have to work - even when it is snowing (Support Worker out in the local community) 🙁
shovel snow on sidewalks and driveway.
Walk dogs. When I get home, hot tea followed by change into sweatpants and oversized sweater. Sit under blanket and watch tv. I hate cold weather.
That's a great plan for when you get home from being outside. What do you watch on TV?
Having a snow day today ,baked cinnamon and ginger cookies ,delivered wearing my mask and keeping a 6ft.distance . For my senior neighbors that don't have love ones close by .This is a volunteer service that I share every 1st and 3rd Fridays ,anytime of the year Before Covid it became a popular neighborhood activity, however I continue to bake for 2 lovely seniors on my street .They are so sweet !
That's a wonderful thing to do for your neighbors. What did you bake for them?
At my home ,in my basement before Covid , it was used for cooking with Autistic Children ,we had it designed and furnished for Highly Creative and Precious Little Gems, This is a volunteer idea that I put into place ,when I gave birth to my 1st Son ,In 1989 who is Autistic
How lovely. My oldest great granddaughter is Autistic and we her mother and I, really appreciate you, and what you did to help these children grow and learn
excuse me please I thought you asked me where did I bake the cookies ,after reading your response I can clearly see ,you asked what I bake ,the answer is cinnamon and ginger cookies ,forgive me ,I'm Legally Blind ,have a wonderful evening !
Only ticked other which is: Take photos of the garden and the scene from our gate of the road and trees.
Dealing with really tough stuff recently...tough stuff or else!!! A snow day isn't much different, although more difficult, than any other day.
Are you okay?
Some hours seem to be much better than others. In a sort of limbo at the moment. Trying to keep my head above the waterline.
I don't like change AT ALL, regardless of the specific situation. I share this unit with my sister. I'm her full-time caregiver. The unit we have lived in (for almost 17 years) is a DUMP. However, with credit in the sub-basement, renting in a secure apartment community, or anywhere else for that matter, will be a huge challenge to attempt to overcome.
Thanks so much for asking. Much appreciated.
I'm never OK, but I'm a survivor and have a measure of 'fight' left within me.
BTW, you may want to take a look at Eric Hoffer's four books, one of which is titled, "The Ordeal of Change". Extremely worthwhile.

Made Christmas cards
Doesn't snow where I live. When we visited my sister a couple Christmases back we had a snowball fight & built mini snowmen. ❄
I enjoy watching the snow fall, especially when I do not have to go out in it. My husband enjoys using his snow blower around the cul-de-sac. Otherwise, it is not much different than any other day that I am home.
I live near the sea, (Southampton) so it never snows here! At least it hasn't since I moved here... And I am originally from the south of Spain so I grew up in a hot place 😁I would love to make snowmen and drink hot chocolate!
🤗 I take pictures of mostly the snowfall landscapes, and send it to loved ones. A couple of my loved ones also send me snowfall pictures😇 On snow fall days I tend to cook chicken vegetable soup, and stone ground corn bread . I make a Hot cocoa coffee blend that is mostly cocoa.
Read and knit
What books do you read? What did you knit on a snowy day? I've been knitting more Snoods.
Thanks for responding. I just finished “The Night Portrait “, a novel of WW2 and Da Vinci’s Italy by Laura Morelli. I loved it! “The Woman in the Window “ a stunning novel with twists in the plot. By A. J. Finn. I enjoyed it. I belong to a book club. My neighbor put together a club for the ladies on our street eleven years ago. There are about 15 of us and we meet every 4-6 weeks. Some women have moved, but continue to come to the meetings- zoom meetings for now. It’s a wonderful way to know your neighbors and keep in touch with old neighbors and meet new ones. I treasure my book club.
As for knitting, I had to look up what a snood was. I knit winter headbands, hats, and blankets for my couch and to give to special friends. Also baby blankets.
What books do you read?
I live in Rochester New York. The snow has been flying. I also enjoy watching the birds that come to my suet bird feeders. We have lots of woodpeckers, cardinals, blue jays, and more.
Thanks again. Reenie
The da Vinci book sounds great, I must find a copy . Your birds must be a delight.
Yes, the Night Portrait” book was a page turner. Read it in three days. What books do you recommend? I bought a pompom maker. Made a bunch from leftover yarns. Fun. Don’t know what I’ll do with them. Maybe a funny necklace for my 97 year old cousin in the nursing home. As for knitting, I think I’ll make a lap blanket for the car. Where do you live?We will have snow until the end of April. They keep the streets clean, so it is easy to get around.
Won’t get my covid vaccine until the end of March. Still trying to get a closer time. I am 70 and have metastatic breast cancer, so I stay home and work from home.
Have a relaxing day.
Reenie
Hi. I am 3/4 the way through A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson about the Appalachians. It's great, makes me want to do some part of it at some time. My previous book was The Whistler by John Grisham - unputdownable! he gets better with every book. I live in Norwich, Norfolk but our good snow didn't last long then it became ice. Had my jab yesterday it was fine, no problems, long queue though but chatted to a nice man next in line so that made the wait more bearable. To be honest, I don't mind this lockdown I have got so many things done and am enjoying reading my book stash and getting into my wool stash.
I read books by Stephen King, James Patterson, Lindsey Kelk, Nora Roberts/JD Robb and Sophie Kinsella. I have started reading A Clean Kill, by Leslie Glass.
We have a book posting on the group and on the Pinned Posts. Would you like to have a Reading Rabbits badge? It’s for those who love to read. I can assign you the badge.😀👍🌈📚🐇📖
Oh my. I haven’t heard of Reading Rabbits. Yes I would like to get a badge. So fun. Thanks Reenie
Wavering between thinking how f’d I’d be if I was homeless and at the same time thanking God I’m not.
Carry on working from home. One of the benefits!
Not had any snow for a few years
Walk if possible, otherwise watch it snowing. Find snow fascinating.
I love my Hot Chocolate, Horlicks and Ovaltine in the winter as I look out of the window at the beautiful snow in the garden watching the beautiful snow coming down at lunchtime or even at night before bed.
Great Survey.
Thank you! I appreciate that very much.
Do you get to take pictures of the scenery when it snows?
Turn up the fire, take off my jumper and watch a "cold"movie feeling snug and ward.
Could just sit and watch the snow fall . Has that instant calm especially at night with street lights on . Last snowfall we were out walking about a mile from home about 5pm. It came on quite heavy .It felt weirdly romantic . It wasn't cold and the wetness didn't bother me . Last snowfall and I finished my Xmas jigsaw.
I don't remember. I know I try a lot of self-care and it varies what my needs are. Watch Youtube videos. Great question.
What YouTube videos do you watch? I listen to some music videos here and there.
Glad you enjoy the poll's question and participating in them in general! That makes my weekend!
I watch guided meditation and distilled tarot? Thanks Activity2004!
You’re welcome! Have a good night!😀👍🌈
READ BOOKS
Which books?
Anything mystery
Hi BeckyAnn1956,I love to read and since you mentioned mysteries I thought you might enjoy reading the author, Jodi Picoult. She has written over 30 books, I think, and there's always a type of mystery involved. An accomplished writer, she's especially talented and also does meticulous research. The majority of her books are page turners. I can hardly put them down. Read the synopsis carefully, so you know that you're choosing a book you'll really enjoy.
Have you heard of abesbooks.com? I love to build my library so I often order from abesbooks. You will find the majority of books ranging from $2.98 to maybe, not very often, $4.50. All the books I've ordered are in excellent condition even if the seller reports that the book is in fair condition.

Non in particular ,. Except I hate silly films.Back in the 1930's they seemed rather good at silly films, every other one.
1950 to 1960 some the comedy films are classics.
Jo. 😊
I'm doing better. Thank you for asking. I need a break from "life"
Go for walk with my camera
I put on my snow shoes and walk outsideavoiding the ice as best as possible. I also
do cleaning in the house.
Leslie
What do you cook for the snowy day?
What do you read? What shows do you watch?
Awe! I bet the snow that comes is very smooth and very quiet when it falls. When we get snow, there's a blanket-like way of it falling and it goes extremely fast and sometimes sideways! We haven't had a chance to do a snowball fight here, yet this Winter. Maybe, in the next few days!
Solitaire!🙄🙃😗
I am not much of a reader. I like watching YouTube videos on my phone. It keeps my mind occupied and sometimes if I watch funny things it will lift up my mood.
Trying to be the best I can be. It's 4:05am on Sunday morning and I'm totally wiped out. I don't take well to any change....at all. The author, Eric Hoffer, wrote four books...all jewels...one is titled "The Ordeal of Change". This little book describes so much, if not all of the feelings I'm experiencing. So very kind of you to ask if I'm OK!!!! So very appreciated.
You have my very best wishes to enjoy a relaxing, safe Sunday!!! I live in south Jersey...it's FREEZING!!!!!!!! Hope it's warmer where you live!!
Take good care of yourself!!
Hi sophie4 ,
Thank you for the reply. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
The weather here is okay, but we expect to get more snow and rain Monday during the day in Maryland. Very cold temperatures here today.
I did some reading this afternoon. I also had gluten free waffles for lunch. Pretty good day.😀👍🌈
