Positive Wellbeing During Self-Isolation
Which is your favorite type of dancing? This is a single choice poll.
I enjoy Rock and Country Dancing.Leslie
That's great! I do some of that, too when we have group dancing ( before COVID started).
Scottish Country Dancing is my favourite type of dancing. Without that I’d be a wallflower at other choices in vote.
This sounds great and lots of fun!
Glad somebody else loves Scottish country dancing Sid. It is very addictive and I’ve travelled far and wide going to dances all over Scotland. Oh, those were the days! 😉😆
Were they done on the weekends?
No, the clubs/classes usually meet one evening per week, during the week, but big dances that different clubs were invited to were generally held on a Friday night as I recall. Great fun, good company, no drink allowed, but lovely tea and home baking provided at half time. 🥰
That’s fantastic to hear. The dances I had been to were done on weekends for a Saturday evening.😀👍🌈💃
Yes, that is more usual so people are free from work ties etc. But traditionally weddings in Scotland were on a Friday so folk could party and drink into the wee small hours, whereas a wedding on a Saturday would mean running into Sunday morning when drinking was not allowed. So perhaps dances were also traditionally held on a Friday night. They might well be more on a Saturday these days. Not sure about that.
I’m Joe but use HissingSid as username which I call my tinnitus noise. Yes Scottish Country Dancing is addictive and enjoyed by many as dance floors are never empty in places where this activity is enjoyed.
I used to love Scottish Country Dancing. But I don't think they have a wheelchair variety!
Cheers, Midori
That’s a shame but I’m sure there must be some form of dancing possible while in wheelchairs. After all disabled sports are becoming more common like basketball and netball so why not for dancing?
This is true. Some people I know who use a wheelchair do come to the dances that I had been attending and they were able to participate sitting down with a nonwheelchair dancer. This was all before COVID.
Use to do Scottish and Folk
BOB
Great fun Bob. I miss it but listen to take the floor on a Saturday night and enjoy a wee jig around the living room if my ankles and knees allow. It is such a good way to keep fit too. 👍🏻👍🏻
Yes, very good exercise for the entire body when dancing.😀👍🌈💃
Yes it kept me fit, I would swim three days a week, thirty five lengths, then on occasions go dancing if time allowed. I sometimes would go to work in my dancing suit covered in face powder and makeup cream. All used to upset my employer
BOB
How long did you do Scottish and Folk dancing? 😀👍🌈💃
Since I was fourteen learned to dance at school for the party before leaving. My main interests started then and continued until I was twenty seven when I had a bad car accident.
I reached quite a high standard and would teach the kids in the You Clubs.

Finger dancing!
What is finger dancing? I never did that before. Can you please tell me more about it?
Minimal dad dancing just waving one finger each hand to the beat of the music!
Ha . My Dad really went for it on the dance floor . Sometimes wish it was minimal . He used to pull some weird faces too .
Wow! This is interesting!😀👍🌈💃
Lived until he was 91 . He was crazily fit . He danced at my sons wedding and we nearly had to get a rope to tie him up . Not much to drink he just loved all music . He told the DJ to calm it down by putting a bit of Richard Ashcroft on and said to me - if they can dance to that they can dance to anything .
I love ballroom as it incorporates many other types of dancing.
My favourite kind of dancing is Scottish Country Dancing. Not so fit for it these days with arthritis setting in but the music still sets my feet tapping and brings back many happy memories.
Activity2004Hermes123. After three months training at Court School of Dancing I was told I had two left feet and I should give it up. that was the end of my dancing. Hermes.
None, as I haven't found a wheelchair dance club before Covid19 and no chance at the moment with the virus. I used to do Scottish Country Dance, and jive. Although I can't join in I enjoy watching any dancing.
Line dancing!
Disco and soul
Belly dancing. Extremely good for mind and body and general wellbeing!!
Line dance
Thought your favourite was pole dancing ,gave me a laugh xxxx
Dance?!! Hardly able to walk now!!!
Algerian dancing 🥰🥰 and the dabke
What is dabke? Algerian dancing sounds fantastic. When did you go? 😀👍🌈💃
Dabke is a type of dance that you do in a circle it’s so fun to do . I just dance at home to Algerian songs 🤣🤣😄
Is it like the Hora (dance done at Jewish celebrations)?😀👍🌈💃
Nope not at all I can show you a video it’s so complicated 🤣🤣 I feel once doing it 🤣
Sure! I will have a look at the video tomorrow morning.😀👍👍🌈💃
Here’s the video m.youtube.com/watch?v=-zNYq... Hope you enjoy 😄
Very energetic. Is the women's dance similar? I see some similarities to Greek dance there.
Cheers, Midori.
women dance differently then the men ❤️💃💃
I thought that might be the case, so yours is more sedate?
we dance much slowly and we move our hips and tooshie 🤣🤣
Must practice Tooshie ...
🤣🤣🤣 no no no 🤣🤣
My weight increase over Xmas will really help . Little effort needed .
🤣🤣 here’s a song you should dance to it has a option for English subtitles m.youtube.com/watch?v=QUBvV...
Was super exhausted 🤣🤣🤣 when I danced to it
Oh ..I love this tune . I do Zumba via You Tube and sometimes the instructor will put in some different music mostly upbeat with a sort of twist . This tune was put to belly dancing with a lot of wrist twisting and slightly more Indian themed . The instructor was called Ayhan Sulu and he is so smiley and funny. He repeats the moves so it makes them simple. This tune is a firm favourite .
Thank you so much for the video! I just had the chance to view it right now.
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I didn't want to wake up my Niece while she was napping this afternoon. She just got up and left to go back to her house for the evening.
Thank you for that, v kind! Reminiscent of Irish dancing, though balletic too.
I love Irish tap dancing I think it is amazing 🤩 ❤️
omg you gotta be kidding!
I do it all, my wife and I met at a dance because we both like to dance so much.
This is fantastic news! How many dances do you go to each week/month?😀👍🌈💃
Hello Activity2004
We used to go dancing just about every weekend, but place we went is closed down now.
Is that from COVID or did they close before the virus started?
Hello Activity2004
It closed before covid, then we had to drive 100 miles round trip to dance until that place was shut down by covid.
I can’t dance at the moment but like country dancing, ballroom and contemporary.
Can you do chair dances?😀👍🌈💃
I would love to learn Salsa 💃🏻 dancing but don’t think I have the energy to Salsa dance.
Danzon (from Cuba)
Full stop! I'm a sedentary type of guy!🙃🙄😗👍
Rock and roll
Do you like 80s-90s rock 😁?
That’s great! Do you go with your friends? 😀👍🌈💃
I used to go dancing about three nights a week, Ballroom, Old Time , Latin, Sequence, and Modern Ballroom. Mind that was in the 1970s
BOB
That’s fantastic to hear. What year in the 1970’s? 😀👍🌈💃
I was a ballroom dancer in the 60s, and eventually a bellydancer in the 90s.
When in the 90's did you do that?
From about 92 onwards until the dance troupe broke up in the early 2000s.
This is very interesting to hear. Thank you for letting me know. Why did the troupe break up?
I no longer dance, the last time I tried many years ago, my knees objected quite strongly.
Love tango and in the Sixties dancing the Swing !
I was a deejay years ago and because of it I hate all forms of dancing.
Can't do much more than 'jiggle about' on the dance floor now; but I'm spellbound when watching a professional dance couple performing an Argentinian Tango, it's so sensuous!
I love to watch people who know what they are doing. I also love salsa. I can't do either but I love to watch those that can. That's why I love dance shows like so you think you can dance and dancing with the stars.
I was ballet mad as a child and teenager, but now I am a lot older, I enjoy barn dancing. I still love watching ballet though.
Preferably Line dance
Scottish dancing all the way it's such a laugh ,went to it when I was going but now just at weddings
That’s great to know.😀👍🌈💃
Same 🤣🤣😭😭
I love the song man in the mirror ❤️😍😍
I like dancing to reggae and ska music!
Can't name one. As a child did tap and ballet. In my teens it was a bit of ballroom but mainly rock and roll. Early marriage mainly disco. In our fifties took up ballroom again for a good few years. Then came line dancing. In later years it was once again ballroom /rock and roll and disco when we occasionally went out to social events and sadly now it just a bit of boogying round the living room when I I get to hear favourite tunes and songs!
A poll about dancing and you didn’t include pole? 😱😱😱😱
I go Line Dancing or at least I did before lockdown
I used to really enjoy jiving but when young I did a lot of Scottish Country dancing.
I do not dance as I have two left feet.😂😅😂
I did Scottish Step Dancing at school and at a wedding. I love dancing in my room to music for my fitness. But ever since I've been to I.C.U fighting for my life (I was close to death in 2018) I lost interest.Great Survey.
A great way to encourage people to keep up with there fitness.
Yes, dancing can be a good idea for fitness. I try to do dancing for that one reason when it’s possible.
Thank you for saying that about the poll. Much appreciated!😀👍🌈💃
Sorry to hear that about the hospital. Are you feeling okay?
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
Still recovering and making the best of myself as I'm still doing my healthy eating and doing a bit of stepping, trying to get my strength back and abdomen exercises. Thanks for asking.
I'm not bothered about the delay I'm not on the computer all the time.
Thank you for letting me know that. I appreciate it.
That's great to know about the healthy eating and some stepping with exercises. How long each day do you do them?
Before I do my stepping I stand on 1 leg to try and get my strength back before I do my stepping as I hold on to a counter. I do my stepping 3 times a day 30 steps on each leg. I'll have to wait until it gets easy before I consider increasing it.
I try to think positive and tell my self something is better than nothing plus add it up at the end of the day that is 90 steps on each leg and that is a big accomplishment for me. If I don't think this way I know I will get depressed.
It's disco for me.The 80's was the era I grew up in.Going out dancing with my friends as a teenager was fantastic.Wham, Prince, Dexys midnight runners, Human league to name but a few.Still love that music now and so does my daughter who's only 27.Lots of happy memories.
I used to do ballet and tap . I failed the 2nd round to get in the RBS as they said I wouldn’t grow tall enough and they needed to train principal dancers . I now love Zumba. Great exercise and plenty of diverse music to do it too .
For myself solo dancing. Another person is a major nuisance. However I’m happy to watch any other kind of dance. Bx
I understand your joy of having fun!
I can't dance 😁
That’s okay! Do you watch dancers on TV? 😀👍🌈💃
Only odd times a show called Strictly come dancing.
When is it on during the week?
I am a heavy rock fan so head-banging was my dance form till the arthritis in the neck got so bad it hurt to even jiggle
Awe! Thank you for saying that about the poll. I miss dancing away from my house.
What is your favorite song for dancing?😀👍🌈💃
How many times a week do you do Hip Hop?😀👍🌈💃
I love dancing bachata and meringue 💃💃
square dancing
i guess so yeah is that what is called now ??
Both sound great! When do you do bachata?
me and my family dance it all the time at parties just cleaning around the house my dad actually tough me how to dance it.
Is it an easy dance?💃😀👍🌈
yeah!! let me see if I can post a video
That would be very nice to see. Thank you!
I looked up bachata - great. Another social dance which has evolved...
Wot? I can't do any sort of dancing!! But good to watch any. I admire modern abstract dancing, but it hasn't yet caught me emotionally. The best ballet ever? Matthew Bourne's male version of Swan Lake. He is a terrific choreographer / dramatist. I would love to see more of his work.
Hey, how many people over 70 still dancing?
