It depends on what can be obtained. I am not really keen on ‘light’ products as often they contain extras that shouldn’t be there.

I love pasta salads, would use hardboiled eggs, and tuna, few other things can I now eat, but would have added sweetcorn, and chopped tomatoes and peppers.

That sounds delicious! I had made a gluten free pasta salad with my mom to take for a block party a few years ago before COVID came and had leftovers after the party ended with the neighbors. My Niece may be able to help with a new gluten free pasta salad in the next few days if the weather cooperates later this week. :-)

I make a side salad most days which vary according to main course and what is available. I use avocado, tomato, both cherry and vine sliced, edamame beans, cos and gem lettuce, sweetcorn, carrot, and sliced peppers.in the summer I add fruit. My mum served salad every day and i think I just ‘took over’, these items are stock on my home delivery each time. I do not add dressings other than olive oil, and fresh lemon juice.

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply toSops

That's a great list for salads and add-ons/dressings. We have salad on the list weekly, but sometimes they can't give it to us because they don't have either salad in the store, or they don't want to give us a different one for the same price if the one we ordered isn't there that day/week. Same with a few other items we would really expect to be picking up. :-)

Sops profile image
Sops in reply toActivity2004

Oh that is a shame, I would have to say I am getting all my order, tend to have the same each time , but cannot get greens such as broccoli for main course, and why have we run put of buttermilk?? Really ? don’t understand that one.I had a warning from my supermarket today that next week may not be able to meet all my needs however

Activity2004 profile image

This is sometimes what happens when we order certain things, too, so we keep trying each week for certain items no matter what we get from the stores.😀👍🌈🥗

My choice is Caesar salad. I might use a combination of lettuce, cherry tomatoes, avocado, mushrooms, olives, boiled eggs, diced ham, tuna, spinach, kale, cucumber, shredded cheese, snap peas, scallions and toped off with a little ranch dressing. we have garden every year so most comes from garden. Can not wait until spring planting starts.

Hello Activity2004

I will be planting usual. Lettuce, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, kale, snap peas, egg plant, cantaloupe, squash and zucchini. I have annual scallions and rhubarb. The squash have been a mixed bag as we fight squash bugs for anything to eat.

Activity2004 profile image

This is a great list of vegetables for planting. Hope the bugs don’t get the squash!😀👍🌈🥗

A simple mixed green salad with scallions, radishes, celery and tomato is my go-to. I generally use either a honey balsamic dressing or ranch.

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply toSunshineGardener

The honey balsamic is a good first choice. I sometimes use honey mustard to make my own honey mustard dressing or balsamic depending on what's in the house. If we have to order something that we're missing, then I use a different dressing all together so I don't have to wait on dressings or stores. :-)

I do like tomato and cucumber salads but either one or the other, and both items are those I only eat if they are properly ripened and preferably grown during the summer months. So I didn't vote for that. Nor Greek salad though I love that too when either eaten in a sunny climate or with feta cheese rather than chicken. The extra one we eat other than the list is quite a lot of Mexican salad.

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply to

Is the Mexican salad like the Southwestern salad? :-)

in reply toActivity2004

I'm not sure what a southwestern salad looks or tastes like Leah, but it's quite possible it could be similar. I shall look it up! ' Mexican' is quite a broad term for us and the basic ingredients for making it 'Mexican' are corn kernels, diced sweet pepper and red beans, plus diced tomato and cucumber. Then seasoned with some salsa mixed into mayonnaise or a vinaigrette dressing. But then after that we turn it into 'Mexican' potato salad, rice salad or pasta salad. Or occasionally use cubes of cornbread too. So it's very versatile.

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply to

Southwestern salad sometimes has tortilla chips broken up and thrown in/mixed in to be like croutons. You also have corn and black beans and salsa.😀👍🌈🥗
