What do you do to relieve anxiety: - Positive Wellbein...
Positive Wellbeing During Self-Isolation
I also sing! I'm a member of Popchoir and there are always new songs to learn! Singing is a great stress reliever
I garden and listen to music too.
I clean, bake, Craft and relax in my summer house. Bliss
Eat chocolate and drink Champagne!
Haha my kind of girl....hope girl with patsy are you anything like patsy in an fab she did like champagne
I was nicknamed Patsy for exactly that reason although that was a number of years ago now, but I still enjoy choc. and champagne!
Really difficult when the husband has poor mobility a form of dementia and cant be left
I'm sure it must be difficult. There are some wonderful videos of the various coastlines online, with the waves lapping which are very calming, particularly if you liked visiting the coast. Music is always worth a try, perhaps songs that hubby can remember or that you both enjoyed. My mother and mother in law both had dementia and responded very well to musical memories, even singing along. I wish you well.
I keep busy - sort out a drawer, shred/file some paperwork, housework, - all distraction techniques
I have started a large jigsaw. I have set aside for a specific time and room to work on it.
I will be less anxious when we clear the garden of pernicious weeds and get the vegetables growing. It relieves stress but the effort is killing me.
Learning to cook!
I really should too! I'm married to a retired Head Chef so have never bothered. I don't cook full stop. Don't enjoy it but do appreciate good food. Good Luck with it.
I didn't like it either, but after the initial failures, the first one, using all the chili red peppers from the package, had me looking for a bathroom fire extinsioner. One more, starting cooking without finishing all the food prep, man - slicing the onions were so depressing. The fire alarm went off by the time was ready to add the onions.
I'm doing great now, ready for adding bourbon to the sauce...
I garden a lot and love it and also knit items for cancer charity and twiddle muffs for dementia patients which makes me feel I am doing something useful to others rather than feeling sorry for myself.
As much as I can, I focus on the fact that there's not a lot of point in worrying. It doesn't help. Just live as well sensibly.
I totally agree , but I admit to finding myself more anxious at mo. I have so far managed to keep myself up , it's been close lol..had to give myself a good talking to and am grateful for ..
Messenger, the radio, neighbours, the birds singing , being able to hang washing out , music , good films , good books , flour, eggs, and other baking stuffs, online support groups, virtual friends , and I'm sure some I've missed .
Happy easter everyone ,stay well, x

Yes singing is an absolute life saver for me and it is a great stress reliever
As a qualified chef and at the moment furloughed which is do difficult for me as I’m used to working all the time and all shifts I have been cooking at home
My family are eating proper food all cooked from scratch and with love
I’m also an NHS volunteer do have been extremely busy with that too.
I also do yoga twice a day if possible and couldn't be without my radio. Aside from the music there is a sense of connection through the presenters.
I listen to music & sing along also do housework even of i have finished i will vacuum again great stress reliever
I also listen to music & sing along & do more around the house great stress reliever’s
TV mostly watch YouTube reading a walk or laying down N nap
Gardening/knitting/clean cupboards out again! Have to keep busy - will be really happy when 12 weeks up and I can go for a walk🌈🌈
I create artistic nails on a silicone hand, and take photos for my lockdown nailfile!
Horizontal Dancing 😉 very good form of exercise 😂
You left off praying!
Well done for mentioning this, GleasonJim. My family's prayers have taken on a deeper meaning in this crisis. Growing closer to God has been most beneficial.
Good for you, finding goodness in this challenging time through prayer. I'll keep you in my prayers and ask for you to do the same for my family. Thanks for affirming that comment.
i also take valium (prescribed)
I put some dance/trance music on. The repetative beat soothes me or makes me want to dance. Either is good
I have always found my garden and pottering so cathartic and it’s helped me over many years. I come alive when I see the new growth all around me!
I hope you all find your “relaxation” and Stay Safe!
What about gardening!
Thanks for being there!
I bake do yoga read watch tv avoid to much of the news Or social media and have started learning Spanish
Clean! I like to clean
I clean wash iron and bake
When I am feeling really down, I put on my Queen album and let it blast. I also read, and take part in online courses. Housework is a real crippler, and I really hate household jobs. I can't wait to come out of this Covid - 19 prison!!
I've put 'New hobby', but it's actually something I've always done: reorganising and streamlining spaces and making them more functional and efficient (as well as appealing). I suppose it must have something to do with the element of control. When everything else around you appears to be defying all attempts to be brought under control, there are things you can do at a micro level to bring order to the chaos around you - both at a tangible and intangible level.
Online LIVE classes of Tai Chi and Yoga via the Zoom meeting app.Live classes are much more engaging than recorded sessions.
I am in the Shielding group so can’t go out even to exercise however, I am an artist/calligrapher so already have that to keep me busy and I just put up with having to exercise indoors! I think a lot of folk are not following the distancing rules when out and have to be really careful, even out jogging or in our parks. We have got to remind ourselves we haven’t yet hit the peak of this disease.
I also do art, typically painting or mixed media using my hands with papers, glues, paints, markers, etc. It helps me change my anxious thoughts and is very cathartic. Recently I’ve combined it with some journaling which also feels helpful to me for solving problems.
Also have Zoom get-together with my reading group (French literature) once a week. It’s great that we all have the internet now. However, if we didn’t, I think I’d still read, write letters, do my art, chat on the phone and generally carry on!
Text my family more busy saving recipes
Our family have been watching the Mass online every day, since the churches have been unable to operate as normal. One advantage of the lockdown has been more time for prayer and spiritual reading.
I like to put feel good music on my Alexa , go back to the sixties recalling my teen years lol😀funny how all those songs are rememberable. Seem to know all the words, not like today’s music, in and out of the charts ! Perhaps that’s why Rod Stuart, the Stones , Dolly Parton, Cliff , the Who are still going do you think? X
Live on my own and am obviously anxious at the age of 83!!
Don't really do any of those above to releive stress, but we do like watching films on home cinema. We just carry on as normal currently - both retired and don't go out a lot so the covid19 lockdown hasn't made a lot of difference really except for shopping. And that can be ordered online or get a volunteer to help us get it cos we're high risk and shielding.
Why didn’t you put gardening in the list ? That’s my number 1
Mostly I work!
I’m also decorating and spring cleaning
Another way I have found is to enjoy the awesome music videos on YouTube, once you watch one, YouTube suggests more similar videos. Then I decided to share those I loved with my local church by posting them on their Facebook page where the links capture the image of that video, so makes it easy and a great gift shared with many who are locked in at home with some inspiring and VERY entertaining choirs for example. Check out those postings at MyAsburyUMC.com - adding new ones each day and seem to have a small following now. So now, not only do I find myself singing along, but I can imagine many others doing the same.
I am a retired professional genealogist, now stuck at my laptop, GOOD old music blaring out, researching OLD family trees, bopping away in my Mancave! Isolated until 15th June, hope old laptop does not breakdown? At least sun shines through room! [sometimes?]
Tai chi is having a positive effect!
I also use art projects as part of my therapy. I find anything creative is calming for me.
So many free online things to enjoy. I've watched webinar about wildlife photography, watched (6 so far) Met Opera New York streaming operas for free (fell asleep after 2.5hours of Wagner 😂), getting to grips with WhatsApp to keep in touch with family & friends, our local photography course was cancelled after only 2 sessions but is running a weekly Zoom group with homework so we can share and discuss our photos.
.
Sainsburys finally gave me priority delivery not much arrived today despite being available at 10.45pm last night lol. No biscuits that I asked for so will need to make some. First home grown rhubarb so there's a crumble to be made to.
Stay safe everyone ☕📷🌱🍰
I sew and quilt. Secretly this is a quilters Dream come true- to “ be sent” to your sewing room!! I’m making masks and working on many projects!!
I'd liked to have said meditation but that's gone out the window!!!!
I voted reading but hobby too as I craft and this nice weather we're having certainly helps
I'm having to self isolate cos of immune suppressant treatment ... a bird table outside my living room window, its somehow soothing watching the wild birds enjoying the fat cakes etc that I put out for them, just ordered a hanging ceramic bird bath so that should be fun ! going to plant out my window boxes with herbs and hanging tomato plants , courgettes, salad...
That was good to listen to thanks
I won a ukulele in a raffle some years back give it to charity shop so hope it went to a good home
Getting time to read many books which I couldn't read since long time.
Just keep smiling there is always somebody worse of than you
I have three puppies who are 7 months old - I take care of them and play with them - training them to walk on leash and come when called. Never get bored!
I do hope that this website sees it appropriate to imclude service animals in your scope of thinking at some time soon.
Try not to think too far ahead!
Singing and dancing is a great way to lift your spirits whilst Yoga keeps me grounded and centred 🧘♀️💃 🎤❤️
I also garden , relaxes me I think like a form of meditation.
Every evening I have a telephone chat with a different friend..
Wednesday evening is my long distance grandson....
Jo.
Learning German on Duolingo x
My first language till I was three years old but still there for me to swing back into. Was born in Austria x
Guten abend mein freund Ich sprechen ein bisschen Deutsch x
Guten abend auch dir . Ich hoffe du hast einen schonen abend. Viel Gluck , ich hoffe sie geniessen es diese sprache zu Lernen...... bit rusty have to keep checking or cheating on translate🤣. Funny when I go back to see my relatives I just spring back into it. First time my husband went with me he was shocked, hadn’t heard me speak Austrian before😂xx enjoy the learning curve and do try to visit Austria when this drafted virus has gone. I think you would love the people, so friendly.
Personally, I find that laughter is the best cure for anxiety so I tend to watch old movies that I found funny like: Blazing Saddles, Airplane and The Odd Couple with Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon.
Gardening is very high on my list, as is Yoga. Reading? Does that include crosswords and sudoku as well as a good novel?
Distraction with cleaning, housework, sorting out draws and cupboards and back working at home.
After suffering a series of panic attacks I also use 1/2 tab Lorazepam in addition to meditation and healing prayers. Due to my severe COPD Emphysema I am able only to iuse my treadmill and static bike for a few minutes at a time but that also helps me to focus and stay in the now. Stay in the now and fear melts away.
Because of the nature of my Chronic Illnesses I had been , self isolated , or what I prefer to call , living ,' Life at Home' , apart from the occasional trip to Doctors, Hospital or the occasional hour outdoors for 5 months before this Virus.
There are many of Us out there , and so for Us , Lockdown is incredibly similar to our Life with Chronic Illness. It is , in essence Business as Usual.
The difference for people like Me , most of Us will be part of the Shielded Group , is that our routines were altered by suddenly becoming filled with a house of human activity and a phone buzzing with the calls of others who were now twiddling their thumbs.
I wrote a post which you can reach via my Avatar about ten things to do to help keep ' Life at Home ' positive and fulfilling rather than Anxious and Unsatisfying. Plus , others posts including ideas about keeping your Dog exercised and even completing a marathon at Home. These might be helpful for both Healthy and Chronic Illness Sufferers that are new to ' Life at Home'.
If reading is one of your hobbies , you may enjoy a delve through my posts.
I hang out with my indoor cat. He is a older cat so I really value extra time spent together. I also hung up old out door bird houses to watch. Sending letters would be a nice idea, or is that considered the spreading of potential germs now?
Hello
I don't have any anxiety, therefore did not vote. I walk 3+ miles everyday but that is to help my breathing. I am not putting people down that are feeling anxiety. I have so many things I enjoy doing, that anxiety is far from my mind. I had one day of anxiety after first being diagnosed with CLL, then came back to earth.
Drink more Scotch!!!!!
I use tapping or eft
Don't watch, listen or read the news!
Don't watch, listen or read the news!
Yes, I garden too. Nature goes on regardless. Sometimes even better now that the skies and the seas are clear. Also a lot of writing.
I go in treadmill for exercise and now learning meditation drumming
I also spend time in my garden. Nature goes its way regardless of our constraints. I also do a lot of writing of one kind and another. Being without my usual homehelp means I will have to do more chores around the house. Part of my daily exercise. I have a website: movingtherapy.co.uk where, as a physiotherapist, much advice is given about care of the body with movement at its core,
Watch one of my many DVDs favourites being Tom's midnight garden & somewhere in time (starring christopher "superman" reeve & jayne seymour - theyre so relaxing for me
I like to listen to music.
Thats realy good your daughters voice is very cool too well done the both of you! I play the uke too not as good as that though, keep on keeping on
At 72 years old I still think 💭 it’s good to be healthy and positive in our thoughts and situations that we’re all going through
I Sleep so much I hope its a meditative form of exercise.
Check out Utube for good street artists there is something more touching or real if you like about street performances and there are some very talented people out there that would not get seen without the blessings of modern media, though it has so many failings in today's word it really comes into it own.
Stay Safe Be Safe Harley xxx
I also play spin the bottle with my wife............
Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.

I also do yoga and walking my dog.
I put New Hobby because I journal to relieve anxiety and there wasn't an "Other" this time. I've found over several years now that I can approach writing feeling very anxious and uncertain, even if I don't know why. It might sometimes take as long as half an hour, but I've always "talked myself around" by the time I've finished writing. It's incredible to think you can talk yourself around, because if I wasn't writing it out (well, typing it out in my case), I would still be anxious. You know, you'd think you could just talk yourself around by talking to yourself. For me it has to do with seeing the words on screen or paper.
I write it all out. Seeing the words on paper or screen is so much more convincing than talking myself around in words but not writing.
I was surprised that music wasn't included. When I get up, esp in winter, I play classical music.
I also drink wine, eat chocolate, listen to music video chat with friends, read, cook, walk along the cliff top, meditate and cry daily !!!!!!
Pray🙏🏻
I love health unlocked & couch to 5k. I shall be devastated if we're stopped from exercising outside. I am age 72 & have orthostatic Tremor & Parkinson's disease. I'm told that extreme physical exercise is most beneficial for early stages of PD so I'm desperate to continue couch to 5k.
I keep busy round the house doing things such as sanding and touching up the wood work and gardening. Looking forward to a glass of wine at the weekend helps too!
play piano, shred documents ,tidy ,sort, cook, look after myself due to abandoned home help being unaware of contamination rules ( mine ) get up the nose of selfish uncaring attitude of some people and wavy to all the kids whose rain bows are in my window !!!!!
When I read scripture, it comforts me or watch something like Highway to Heaven focused on hope for the future. I also like to listen to worship videos, enjoy a game of finding hidden objects, trying new recipes etc,
I would recommend tai chi/ qigong. These can be described as moving meditation. They especially help with breathing, balance, calm and focus.
Gardening very helpful -'exercise' not specific enough
Just sit back and listen to your breathing is good.Chill out.
I play guitar and have Sex.
Unfortunately I drink like a fish to relieve anxiety but try to get outside for a bit too. Take vitamins as if they will protect me, but the placebo affect might offer up a little support!
Hello all got to cheer up today. Don't know if I can. Stuck at home.......
I look for things that make me smile. In lieu of a hug it always makes me feel better.
Even though family situation is difficult (for me) just making time to include shopping for a 90 year old who has just one lung and other difficulties means that I can feel like I'm making a contribution to the nation coping.
It may not be much but to pinch a pretty coronavirus supermarket advert "every little helps". Never has that been more true.
I do some programming and do some cooking
I also enjoy pottering in the garden on a good day and also love to design my rooms so my hubby can decorate them for me
(I have fibromyalgia and other stuff )
