First of all.... hello to all the mums from the Pakistani community!

I hope you are all well.

A psychological research is taking place which is focused on a topic area that needs a great amount of attention.

THE RESEARCH IS FOCUSED ON EXPLORING MIGRANT PAKISTANI WOMEN'S EXPERIENCES OF THE POSTNATAL PERIOD ("Postnatal period" means the time after childbirth)

Did you ever suffer with postnatal depression? Then this research needs your help!

(Postnatal depression is depression after childbirth)

In order to take part, you must be:

* A Pakistani woman

* Born originally in Pakistan

* Have had at least one child

* experienced depression or despair after having your baby

WHY IS THIS RESEARCH NEEDED?

Not much is understood and known about the experiences and feelings of Pakistani mothers who have moved here to the UK and started their families.

Taking part in the research will help healthcare services to have a better understanding of the needs of migrant Pakistani Muslim mothers who have been diagnosed with depression after having their baby.

This will allow health professionals and services to provide the right kind of care so that Pakistani women are better supported at a time when they they may be going through life changing situations and may not have enough support, especially when family may be back home.

In such situations many Pakistani mothers may feel alone, isolated and unsupported, which can be very distressing.

In order for services to provide the right kind of care and support to the mothers, more information is required from migrant Pakistani mothers themselves.

Coming forward and taking part in this research is really important so that we can gain an understanding of your experiences and help Migrant Pakistani mothers in the future. Services cannot provide the best care or meet your needs if they do not have the knowledge and information of your experiences.

Here is more information and you may have the following questions:

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF I DECIDE TO TAKE PART?

If you decide that this research is important and that you would like to take part then you will be invited for an interview. During the interview you will be asked some questions (which you do not have to answer if you do not want to) and you will be given space to discuss your experiences openly.

WHAT IF I FIND OUT MORE INFORMATION FROM YOU AND THEN I DON'T WANT TO TAKE PART?

You are free to not take part in this research. If at any point you do not wish to take part in the research then you can say so. You are in no way forced to take part.

WILL MY INFORMATION AND MY PERSONAL DETAILS BE KEPT CONFIDENTIAL?

Yes. Only the researcher will know that you have taken part in this research, nobody else will know your name and personal details. This will be kept a secret.

ETHICS:

This is a real and genuine piece of research that has been authorized and checked by a University and relevant Health Services. So it is approved by ethical boards and I can provide information on this.

FINALLY:

It is not possible to provide every bit of information on the project here, so if you are interested then please do contact the researcher.

Even if you feel unsure and just want to ask some questions about the study before making a decision then that is fine too. Just call and we can have a chat about the project in more detail.

If you find you are interested then we can arrange a time to meet.

Even if you are thinking - yes I felt some depression many years ago when I had a child, then that is fine! This research is interested in exactly that, so please pick up the phone and find out more!

Even if you are currently experiencing postnatal depression then you can also make contact with the researcher and go through the research criteria to see about participating.

It is difficult finding migrant Pakistani mothers for this research and that is why I am making contact with possible mothers through here.

Its a really important piece of research and I hope that you are able to consider taking part.

Maybe you're not from a Pakistani background but perhaps you know someone who is? Please pass the details on.

You can reach the researcher on the number (or email) below.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kindest regards,

Miss Rima
