How long have you had PNI, ( PNI, PND, PP please state which) or if recovered, how long did it last?
I have had it for 15 months, but the good news is that I feel stable. However, not sure I could leave my medication anytime soon.
I am glad Chech you now feel stable. As to medication, many have found they are very helpful in helping to live with PNI but that they needed to continue to take them fro a while after they felt well again.
I take it you have been to our forum at pniorguk.proboards.com ? As here you can discuss medications and other aspects with other sufferers and survivors.
I was diagnosed in June 2011 with severe PND. Looking back, I can see that things were not right following the birth of my first son in 2009. I have weaned myself off my anti-depressants this week and I am so proud to now be medication free and doing well
Thank you all for your replies. One of the reasons I asked this is in retrospect - it started for me in 1989 when my daughter was born - I can identify now many years later that while I was a lot better after 3 years it was about 5 before I can honestly say I felt fully over PNI.
Yet at the time, because it was over 10 months before I sought any professional medical advice, I was told it was unlikely to be PNI because I had had it over 10 months. My health visitor and doctor at the time were of the view that PNI of any kind did not last more than 12 months and rarely more than 6. But I did not feel that bad until about 4 months after my daughter was born and did not really realise what was happening to me until she was about 5 months and it definitely lasted 3 years badly and 5 years altogether.
I was told that how I felt could not be PNI/PND etc but had to be clinical depression and anxiety even though my symptoms were not generally in the area of depression and I had not had it at all, or was not fully aware of it, until about 5 months after my daughter was born.
And others have told me that they have been told the same and have had numerous diagnosis apart form what they thought it was , which was PNI
I guess my interest now, in retrospect, is to build up a picture of the average length of PNI and has anyone else been told it could not be PNI/PND etc unless it started straight after the birth and lasted less than 12 months? been told this recently. or in the past? Have professional views on this changed?
And how long is the average length PNI lasts for most
I will ask this on other questions.
