I have 1 son who is now 5 1/2. It took me 4 1/2 years to feel ready and strong enough to consider having another baby and to be confident that i have the tools in place if I should suffer from pni again with any subsequent children

I have just the one child, a little boy. who is now 2.5yrs.

Going through PNI with my Son has definitely put me off having another one. It took me a long time to get to a place where I could relax and enjoy my Son and feel like a good Mum, where I wasn't forever torturing myself inside and avoiding anything that would stir up an intrusive thought.

His first year was such a struggle, every day was agonising... and all I wanted to do was shower my love on him and play and have fun with him, but PNI ruined that for me :'(

The idea that that could happen again is the reason I'm so scared of having more as I'm happy now and we have such a good time together... although I would love to have another, I'm not sure I'll ever get to a place where I'm ready to risk it.

It's so amazing to hear these other stories for the first time. I'm in the middle of trying to have another one now, but torn with the knowledge of how bad things got the first time. My GP recommended that I keep on my medication as she thinks this may help stabilize things mentally, but still very nervous about getting pregnant on antidepressants. Anyway it's great to know you're not the only one!

Hi

I have three children and suffered after my second only. In many respects life after my first was much harder - I didn't feel confident as a first time mum. moved to an area where I didn't know anyone etc but was ok.

I found the jump from one to two incredibly hard despite a five year gap between the children. My baby was very good, but I struggled to fit everything in and was a bit obsessed about being the perfect mum, home maker etc. After about 4 exhausting months PNI set in with horrible and weird physical symptoms. But in my case largely thanks to meds recover I did.

With my third, I was careful (as much as I could be) not to get exhausted, tried to get extra sleep in and let housework slide. I was also very honest to myself firstmost about how I felt luckily was pni free.

The site pniorguk was amazing throughout my pni and after.
