My emphasis is on carer's skills not P mumblers. I would assume the mumbler is trying their best to improve their speech. I have in mind a simplified mobile phone type gadget for communicating or lip reading.

Mumbling- are there any aids or skills a carer can use/learn to understand P. mumblers.
Carer needs to encourage Parkinsonian to open his/ her mouth more when speaking. If their is a local 'singing for fun' group in the area join this. It helps to open up and strengthen the vocal cords. In my area we have started a small, but lively group of Parkinsonians who meet weekly for one hour in a church hall and really bang out lots of good old songs. We are fortunate to have got the services of a lovely couple who play for us, one on the piano and the other with a guitar. We had a reciital recently, singing for our local Support Group at their monthly luncheon. Great fun and is very helpful. Well worth looking into.
