On a Scale of 1-5, how much do you feel your diet impacts your CP related abdominal pain?
Without enough Creon: 6/5!
With Creon: minimal impact - I can eat most things I want to eat.... That said though, I now usually only want to eat the most simple things.
Sugar and other quickly released carbohydrates are becoming an issue for me now so I eat lots of baked veg for sweets now, and I need too much supplemental potassium to be able to afford to eat salty (sodium chloride) things.
I’m AP & recently diagnosed as diabetic. I had just got my stomach happy on a well balanced low carb & fat diet. Dietician said I wasn’t eating enough carbs so to increase them, eat more protein & use a sugar substitute. My stomach was not happy… spent 3 days in the loo! ☹️
Have to eat basic food, nothing fancy, had to form my own diet when diagnosed diabetes 2 same day with full isolation, but basic seems to be best? All chocolate, drink, most carryouts all off the menu for last two years, weight loss - nothing, but at least cholesterol pretty good👍 Oddest of 'snacks' oranges?
I am having a bit of a problem now, diabetes 2, now being tested for prostate cancer, what more?
The question is slightly difficult to answer because pain can be categorised into many subdivisions, depending on how the body deals with CP and its related complications at various stages of the disease and its symptom expression. My diet and lifestyle also vary according to these 'phases'.
The rating will vary depending on whether:
1. I am in acute pain owing to an acute on chronic attack,
2. A chronic weeks-long or months-long pain stage where there are issues of nausea/appetite loss along with pain
3. An on and off discomfort because of bloating/indigestion other abdominal or gastric issues because of EPI/Dosage/functioning of Creon which might require esomeprazole use etc
4. Issues with duodenal strictures which can keep the food in one place for too long causing indigestion, nausea, vomiting etc.
More than the kind of pain that affects the body and mind, it is the continued discomfort and quality of life that gets affected under points 2-4.
But overall, the kind of diet most definitely affects my ability to live with and recover from pancreatitis and related complications.
Even on a low fat diet of 20-25gms a day while taking 72,000 lipase units with each meal and snacks, I still have issues with pain and GI symptoms. Quality of life is definitely affected
