I have a brilliant doctor who knows me and my condition and has my medication spot on he has not got rid of the pain but it is ok and I can stick it. I know that it won't get any better but what will I do in the future just have to put up with it and slow down a bit and I am very satisfied

Once given a diagnosis of CFS/ME it seemed as though I didnt exist to the doctors. I don't know what symptoms are from the condition including the pain, which are caused by medication given and which are really something that needs further investigation. I have learnt more from the Internet but so far as my doctors are concerned I think they would rather I went away and didnt trouble them again. I dont think this is acceptable.

Unfortunately, CFS/ME/FMS are all conditions that are met with a certain amount of scorn from some medical practitioners. My boss is one of them, so I'm not relishing the prospect of telling her I have FMS, if the rheumatologist's provisional diagnosis turns out to be correct. You're right, ladybear - it's not acceptable!

I learnt something of great value on the Pain Programme. Its down to each of us to re-evaluate who we are and what we are capable off until such time as there is a proper treatment for our Condition. I found this information/approach really freeing because it gave me back the power rather than the condition ruling and no-one understanding it. So, the way it goes is: re-evaluate what you can do and what are your limits and then establish a new contract of relationship with others; whether work, friends, family. ie. They want you to be as you were before but you are no longer like that or capable of doing that, so, re-negotiate the 'contract' and tell them what you can do, what you need done for you etc. If a job or relationship will not accept the new contract then really they are not right for where you are in your life right now and will always be undermining you and causing stress. Take back your power and make good choices to move forward.

after 14 years I have been advised by a consultant in Edinburgh that I do not have peripheral neuropathy as diagnosed for all this time and I will have to go back to the beginning and be re-assessed. as you can imagine I am distressed , Ian
