Is the size of tumour significant? Mine was a whopping 28x19x15 cm, so came back from op 16lbs lighter. I'd thought I was getting fat!

Wow! That was a hidden bonus of having your op. just wanted to say well done for geting through your op and point you in the right direction for an answer, which I have no idea of. There is a nurse helpline listed on the Ovacome website and you may find more info on tumour size on there. The number to call is 0845 371 0554. The nurses there have all had experience of OC and are brilliant. They are there during office hours, Mon to Fri. They will be able to give you an answer.

I hope you are recovering well now and that your treatment continues to be successful. You have come to a great site where you will get some great support from women who have been through our own experiences with OC.

Good luck

Love Wendy xx

Size doesn't matter from what I have read from many cancer stories from being on different ovarian cancer boards. Some women like me had a enlarged ovary...mine was 7.3cm by 5.6 cm and my other ovary was normal size and both had cancer. I was diagnosed with stage IIIc because of lesions in my omentum. I read others with larger tumors and lower stages. It all depends how the cancer spreads. Kim

Hello Kim63. Thanks for that as my searching had not got me very far. Mine was in one ovary and had leaked but not spread, though as I've still to go through chemo, I don't know if the leakage has transported itsself anywhere. Hope your treatment's going well

Hi Christine..im not sure about dimensions but i was told that mine was bigger than a football..i looked 9 months pregnant. I too was staged at 1c. I had chemo because it ruptured during surgery and there was leakage. Most stage 1c cases have chemo usually as extra insurance. I hope your treatment goes well. Good luck..it will be over with before you know it. Take care. Love Sharon x

Hi Christine

Wow , that was a big one !

Mine was 16 cm by about 10cm by about 12 cm and turned out to be a borderline tumour .

My understanding is that the size is not as significant as whether these are other nasty little bits on your other organs.

I was also told that the recovery from having these monsters removed is often slower than when smaller masses are removed, perhaps it is because the upheval is greater , so do take things very easy.

Take care

Hello Charlie

Recovery has gone alright, though it was a bit uncomfortable as everything sasheyed into the space. Have you needed any further treatment? I'm not sure what a borderline tumour is.

Hi Christine

That's great that your recovery is going OK , from now on hopefully it will be all positive.

I didn't need any further treatment, but I was unzipped to investigate ongoing pain. This would appear to contravene every piece of evidence based guidelines I have seen and is a long story as you can imagine.

Borderline tumors constitute 15% of all ovarian cancers . They are not benign nor are they fully invasive. However we need the same surgery and the same follow up, but they don't respond to chemo so it's not usually needed.

Take care

Lots of love
