I've been suffering with pelvic pain, lower back pain for about 3 months. I've seen my GP who has bloods and scan, do I ask for ca125 test?

Hi and welcome. You have some of the symptoms which may be caused by Ovarian but this doesn't mean you have the disease, Ovarian is relatively uncommon and what you are experiencing may be due to many other problems. I would suggest that you complete Ovacome's BEAT symptom tracker, print it out if you can, go to see your GP and hand the results over. Here's the link:

You don't say if you have had your blood or CT results or even if you have had them done yet. Your doctor will know that a CA125 test should be done so I would think this may have already been done. Perhaps you could ask for the results. The CA125 isn't a very reliable marker when being used diagnostically, however. If you still feel you need further advice before returning to your GP, you could call the Ovacome nurse led Helpline and speak to Ruth or Susan. The contact information is

I hope things resolve for you soon. Love T xx

I'm due yo have my bloods taken on Monday coming and my gp asked me to take in a urine sample at the same time. I haven't had my pelvic scan yet I am waiting for my appointment. When the nurse takes my bloods I will ask her if they will check the ca125 levels just incase. There is history of bowel and colon cancer in my family.

Hi, If you are unsure ask,I went backwards & forwards to my GP with pain & bloating for nearly a year being fobbed off with different things.I was worried as their is bowel cancer in my family.I only got diagnosed as I went to see another doctor as an emergency with the pain,by this time I had put 2 1/2 stone in weight on & most of it was at front from chest down.At ultra sound I was told I had to go straight to my doctor that day & was put on 10 day referal to go to our McMillian clinic to see doctor,2 weeks later I was in hospital.I am still mad that if my doctor had of taken notice & done something before I would not have got into the state I did.So make sure you are happy with diagnosis & treatment & don't be fobbed off as I was.GP did end up in trouble after consultant reported him but that wasn't much help to me through treatment.Once at Mcmillian treatment is excellent & I can't thank them enough,it was purely down to my GP that I suffered for a long time before I got any treatment.

Good Luck Sue x

Hi Sue.. I was wondering if you consider yourself a vintage person at 62, or does your name mean something else? xx

Hi, It's not my age it's the year I was born & the vintage is because I love all things vintage & shabby chic style stuff.I sell designer vintage stuff as a hobby now but I am not a vintage person my favourite designer is Viv Westwood.I just love clothes, shoes, bags etc to be truthful & own far too many.Sue x.

Hi Sue .. I was being a little tongue in cheek. I suspected it was your age! I'm 3 years older.do you actually own Vivienne Westwood clothes? The only way I'd get VW, is by ebay and even then! I do wish I'd been a little more of a style chic in my time! Xx

Hi, yes I have , I love clothes etc & spend far too much money on them.I always have done from being young, only trouble is after OC most don't fit me.I used to model part time when I was younger & thinner & I think that's where it started.I'm still style nuts but don't spend just as much as I used too.I only have one wardrobe of clothes I actually wear I just look at the rest wishing I could still fit in them.Sue x

Now I can relate to the still fitting scenario! Xx

Hi Sue,

Sorry to hear that you were diagnosed with bc and that you were fobbed off by your gp. I've been having various levels of pain since before Xmas. I was first concerned when I had intercourse (from behind, sorry for details) but it was the most excruciating pain I had ever had. From then in I've been getting lower back pain and pelvic pain. More recently I've noticed a numbness down my legs, mainly my left leg and a pressure pain in my rectum. My bowel habits have increased and I've noticed on a couple of occasions there has been fresh blood in stools and on tissue paper. Do you recognise any of these signs? I too have bowel cancer in my family so it's a worrying time. Just waiting for appointment to come through for my scan - it's the waiting I don't like.

Hi, it could be anything , the symtoms you describe sound like it could be a bad case of Ibs or you could have caused some damage which has not healed. It is not forced to be OC, I do get a lot of pain but I had a muscle disease before I was diagnosed , I found the most noticable sign was the swelling of my stomach & abdomen which was hard not soft & flabby. You will be sorted out it will come quicker than you think.Hope you get a good diagnosis Sue x.

My bloated stomach seems to be worse in the evenings and its hard almost like I'm pregnant. The pressure pain in my bottom us worse when I am sat down so driving and sitting at work is painful to the point it makes me feel nauseous.

Dear Jackalfie,

There is no harm in asking your GP for a ca125 blood test, at least it might indicate that there is something wrong.

Best wishes x G x

Ps by the way I don't think Sue ( Vintage) said she was diagnosed with BC ( bowel cancer) but OC (ovarian cancer) this is an ovarian cancer support group and if we have it spread to the bowel ( like I have) it is still ovarian cancer (but on the bowel) xx
