Which health care professional has given you th... - My Ovacome
Which health care professional has given you the greatest support on your cancer journey?
Everyone has been amazing but I just don't know what I would do without the ongoing support of my Gynae nurse!
Mine too. Her support has been so important in my continued health (and when I had the occasional wobble!) Thanks to Emma...
Nurses humanise the jargon of the medical profession and are honest about what is happening
I trust mine implicitly. Just hope her's is not one of the 400 jobs under threat at my local hospital
although all have been great, if I have to choose its the nurse as she will answer questions in a way thats really clear and makes it possible to ask any little thing without feeling you are bothering her. shes alos great at helping navigate hospital systems!
For me it was my surgeon. He never made me feel that I was troubling him, he kept everything very factual and just made me feel that the confidence I had in him to do the best for me was trust well placed. The other health professionals I saw were great, please do not get me wrong but most of the nurses I had dealings with were quite emotional about my diagnoses and offered me their sympathy etc and whilst this was all very well meant it just wasn't right for me.
Each time I had chemo I had the same chemotherapy nurse, this particular nurse was a diamond! she supported me and gave me advice. She was always there for me nothing was to much trouble for her. I didnt feel I could trust anybody else but this nurse.
The whole healthcare team have been very supportive and it is difficult to choose between them. I have recently needed to call the out of hours service and also had a great and rapid response from them. My GP is always available and communicative, the surgeon and oncologist informative, and the chemo team kind and effective. The clinical nurse specialist provides the bridge between the medical and personal problems and I certainly value her help.
I have had tremendous support from my oncologist, my surgeon, my GP and my CNS...I can't praise them enough. After all, they have saved my life, plus they have been understanding and helpful throughout. Can't ask more than that! Plus I am a rather irritating patient! I want to know everything ALL the time ;o)
G.P.'s been wonderful since diagnosis and treatment, and the Specialist Nurse was great too - but having a surgeon who recognised, diagnosed, and acted clearly and honestly (kept us 100% informed, and respected my decisions) was worth more than I can express. He saved my life.
My GP was very quick to reliase something was very wrong with me. The journey started April 20 2010 the full hysteremony was May 25 2010. I cannot fault the NHS for their care and speed.
I have wonderful consultant to whom i can speak a lot but when i need to speak about my issues I can do speak to my macmillan nurse - she is my angel. Thank you Sandra for your time and care.
It was v close between my nurse specialist and my whole GP surgery!
We have several GPs, and each one has been wonderful, from the one that sent me to A & E with a letter to get the tests started, to the receptionist who found me a room to wait In away from the main waiting area to reduce the chance of infections when I was at my most vulnerable. The GPs gave me double appointments to ensure there was plenty of time to talk through any worries, and even saw me before the scheduled appointments when I was on a "sit and wait" slot. They also care how my 13 year old daughter is coping, always ask about her, and one took the time to explain to her the perils of sunbathing...teenagers don't like to listen to Mums on that subject, do they! Overall, whilst my nurse specialist has been fantastic, I think my GP surgery is amazing!
Bracken trust Llandrindod wells all been very supportive
A Consultant Oncology Nurse has been so helpful to me. I see him sometimes instead of the Oncologist. He is better than all the docs except the Consultant Oncologist.
A tip for the future: check the date - top right - before replying to see if it's still a live discussion or not....This one isn't. Everyone does this at least once!
For me it was my surgeon. He was amazingly positive and gave me hope. 1 of my 3 nurses was also lovely, but the others were stretched & too busy and occasionally patronising.
