If you already had a bone density sca... - Osteoporosis Support
If you already had a bone density scan, please tell us what your diagnosis was.
I was recently given a bone density test and it came back indicating severe osteoporosis. I was advised to be very careful because I could fracture any bone at any time. Over the past 6 months I have fractured 3 vertebrae in my spine. Painful, so very painful. Waiting to have third kyphoplasty (spinal surgery). That should happen in the next week.
Was told that just a bump on furniture could cause a severe fracture. The thighbone is most susceptible. A fall could be awful. My osteoporosis is the result of several years of cancer treatments for small cell lung cancer. Both chemotherapy and radiotherapy along with steroid medications caused the damage. I am being treated weekly to rebuild my bones. Needless to say I am on the mend after this next surgery.
I am 66 years old. Have had a double mastectomy due to DCIS breast cancer, and small cell lung cancer now. It is my hope to start the countdown to recovery soon.
Hi Kate, I commend you for your positive outlook when you have been through so much. I'm glad to hear you are on the road to recovery and are already going through treatment to rebuild your bones.
If you are currently going through an exercise program, we strongly encourage that you be sure they have had special training in working with people who have low bone density or osteoporosis. americanbonehealth.org/exer...
