Hi, stage 4 means it’s spread but I’ve heard cases of chemo / radio working well enough to mean surgery is an option later and that could be curative. Also advances in immunotherapy may be beneficial. It’s tough, I know first hand! But there is hope…my best wishes.
There is definitely hope, as the last person wrote. I too was stage four and am 3 years post op living a very good life( with adaptations). As for help, I found the CNS gave me huge amounts of information, the chemo teams were amazing and NHS counselling was available when I was struggling at the beginning( it is a frightening process I’ll admit). I tried to access MacMillan at one point but all I got really was their information leaflets. Once treatment was in train I was kept pretty busy, and having you there for him and hopefully other friends and family will be massively comforting. My very best wishes to you all
What is the CNS cancer nurse specialist?
Yes, Cancer Nurse Specialist. Hopefully your son will usually see the same one.
Hi sorry to hear if your son’s health.
My husband has just completed 2 chemo immunotherapy sessions. After a PET scan it showed no effect on his secondary cancer (stage 4) and cancer has spread to further areas T4 and leg bones, on top of metastasised to his liver, lung, pelvis, spine area at sacrum.
Unfortunately this new wonder drug did not work for my husband and oncologist made decision to stop the chemo immunotherapy.
He will be given 5 sessions radiotherapy to his tongue, neck and T4 areas this Wed, then in 3 weeks will consider another chemo therapy depending on results of another scan.
However do not be disheartened because some have not benefitted from this new therapy. Do speak to your son’s specialist about chemo immunotherapy as it is the current ‘wonder treatment’ for advanced cancers or cancers that have metastasised.
There is option and stay positive and hopeful. BTW we are in Australia.
Take care!
