Charity shops...

So our 2 year old has plenty of hand me downs which has saved us lots of money. A friend of mine wouldn't dream of going into a charity shop. I don't see it as an issue, it's thrifty and he's growing out of his clothes quickly, the toys too. We buy new items too it's just an alternative and substantially cheaper . How's everyone else feel about charity shopping?

Brilliant. Love it. If quality is good why not. I teach my boys that buying pre-loved stuff is exciting (what treasures will we find), good for the planet and that people all grow out of things so why wouldn’t you pass it on to the next person who needs it, plus money is given to fantastically important causes. We found loads of brilliant Lego sets and books in particular.

I found it so much easier to get second hand clothes especially when there under 2. I hate to think how much it would cost to buy new every 3 monrhs when there born.

I'm one of 4 so charity shops and second hand wasn't a problem for any of us. I found alot of toys and books hardly touched i wipe them over with some detol wipes to make sure there clean and off you go. Happy mum with money in my pocket, and happy son with new to them toys

Love it - for me as well as them. Up to the age of 3, between hand me downs from friends and charity shops, the children only had new things if they were basics like poppered vests, presents or extra special outfits. They grow out of things so quickly that there isn't much point spending out for everyday or nursery clothes, and it's a crying shame for perfectly good clothes to go to waste just because a baby has outgrown them.

The children don't know the difference, no-one else knows (or cares) and we could spend the £ on more useful things such as safer car seats.

I agree and am a massive of charity shops, always have been and will continue to be. What saddens me is when the charity shops have lost thier souls and turned into a retro high priced store!

You can get some lovely things in charity shops. And nearly always nice staff too 👍
