This leaves me. I talked with his Secretary and she said I am a tricky case and she will get back to me.

I am sure that your surgeon will ensure that you have a good alternative to go to, but if there is any problem, I suggest that you ring the OPA helpline on 0121 704 9860.

Hi Alan. I was told he left at only 2 weeks notice and he has 70 patients who need to be passed on to new consultants. She said my case is a bit tricky so she was going to look into it and get back to me. She seemed just as shocked that he had left the NHS. I will wait and see if anyone gets in touch but ime very disappointed and worried to say the least. How long do you think - should wait before contacting the OPA helpline Alan?

It would depend on whether you have an immediate problem, but the hospital will need a reasonable amount of time to sort things out, and will be influenced by how urgently any one patinet needs an appointment.

He had spoken to me about a procedure a few months back but he was waiting until my appointment with chest clinic was resolved. I have ongoing issues but I think I have just accepted that this is how life is for me now. I will wait a few months or until things get real bad for me before chasing them up. Thanks Alan

If you have an immediate problem, I suggest that you go to your GP and ask to be referred to a different consultant. There are lots of good upper GI surgeons around the country. Good luck.
