Slight feeling of something stuck at back of throat.

I am now some 4.5 years post Ivor Lewis, but very occasionally, as at present, I have this feeling as though something is stuck at the back of my throat. Might this be the result of reflux during the night? My recollection of previous occasions when this has occurred is that the feeling eventually passes.

Hi Speakman,

I get a feeling like that when I've eaten a little more than I should, and there just isn't room for the last mouthful in my stomach, so it's stuck in the stump of my esophagus, the back of my throat. Does it happen when you've been eating?

Thanks Patchworker,

You know, over the piece when this has happened, I can't say that I can put it down to anything in particular. I just get this feeling from time to time, but yes, it is a bit like a piece of food stuck at the back of my throat. What I do recall on this occasion was that on Saturday night, I had a few glasses of wine and my suspicion is that in the course of the night, they may have caused reflux, which being highly acidic, has caused the feeling in my throat. Anyway, that is my layman's shot at this but others may have a better idea

That was my GERD issues. it wore me out. Throwing up everyday i lost

50 lbs since April. The problem is an esophagus leison or tumor that is sometimes bleeding blocking my swollowing.

If you send me your email. I'll send you a file for my endoscopy ultrasound.

it has detailed descriptions and pictures. For these problems it is interesting.

It sounds possible, doesn't it. Perhaps there is a slight soreness that the reflux has created which will heal over a few days. I am trying to think of how one could clarify what it is. Having extra Gaviscon might give some relief? I hesitate to recommend honey because the sweetness might cause more problems than it is worth. But keeping drinking water may help.

Alan,

Many thanks. In the event, I am due to see my consultant on a routine visit in mid-November and I shall run it past him. If he comes up with anything different, I shall let the site know.

Speakman.

I have a continual soar throat. I have to eat very slowly and not gulp to swollow.

I have an esophogus leison or tumor that has been bleeding. And an upper stomach

10 cm mass. Biopsis it was described as Adencarcinoma with focal signet ring features.

Tommorrow Oct 29th i go for a PET Scan and a CT Scan at the Stony Brook University Medical Center Surgical Oncology Department. Whatever comes up will determine

future planning. I am Anemic. My Iron and Hemoglobin levels are low. I have this

feeling of being burned out.

If you send me your email i will send you files of my medical documents. The Endoscopy Ultrasound have detailed descriptions and pictures. For this kindof

problems it is interesting to look at.

Hi Speakman

This could be caused by a number of issues and it is probably best to get it checked out. I read you are going back to the consultant to ask him, which is the correct thing to do

1. It might just be something temp lodged in the oesophagus. A lot of swallowing will now be totally reliant on gravity. Try keeping a diary to see when it happens.

2. You might have scar tissue causing a small blockage when eating large mouthfuls or 'sticky' substances. There are ways of correcting this.

3. As patchworker mentions, you can only eat small meals now, so it might be a build up of food trying to reach your duodenum if you have had a large meal

4. Acid will cause gas and sometimes that holds up the food so it feels like a blockage. Do you burp a lot after the blockage has gone ? Try increasing your omeprazole for a short time to see if that works. Try some peppermint tea as well as a quick fix.

5. At the worst, (and most unlikely) there might some form of growth, so best to get it scoped to be on the safe side.

Hope this helps a bit and good luck on your Nov visit
