Could be a blocked saliva gland. I get it from time to time though it was worse during chemo.

Prolonged exposure to reflux does not do you any good long term. I think it might be worth having it checked out. Sometimes reflux does affect things higher up in the ear, nose and throat department.

If you have been prescribed the omeprazole and not taken it, there may well be an effect somewhere or other, so it is always best to consult your doctor about leaving it off. There is sometimes a 'bounce' effect of stopping omeprazole when things feel worse for a while.

You might experiment by taking gaviscon or an over-the counter antacid to see whether that has any effect on the pain.

Hi Marge,

I am over 3 years post op and have sometimes been getting slight pain up one sde of my neck and into my ear for about 6 months now. I wondered whether it was caused by sleeping propped up at a funny angle?

Reflux up into the eustacian tubes can cause pain and discomfort in the ear and jaw. Acid blockers are important, but trying to minimize the reflux whether acidic or not is important to remember. Raising the head of the bed, not eating close to bedtime, avoiding fatty foods in the evening, and other things to minimize reflux are important also. Best wished on the New Year.

I get this a lot but with me I'm 99% sure that the cause is tension .

I find that I'm keeping my jaw clamped shut ,not grinding my teeth but sort of keeping the muscles around the hing of my jaw tight all the time .

I think it's partly a reaction to some of the physical issues one gets with this disease - tight feeling at back of throat ,desire to burp ,nausea .
