Hiatus hernia .. questions on nissen op

Dear All .. im awaiting nissen keyhole operation thru nhs. In the process of reducing my blood pressure BP (attempting natural methods .. not keen on starting BP tablets). Hospital pre-op checks say my BP is too high (around 148/88 currently).

Got giant rolling hiatus hernia .. not sure size .. related reflux .. narrowing of oesophagus plus a mega oesophagus (oesoph has enlarged to accommodate food backing up). No C .. touch wood .. as of mar17 anyway.

On 20mg omprez.. per day .. still get reflux .. hopefully just bile. Sleep at abt 60 degrees upright .. dont eat late .. good diet .. and by and large reflux stays down. Keen to get off ppis and hoping things dont progress to barrets.

Can i ask you regarding the Nissen op:

.. im 60 but quite active sport wise .. would like to maintain general gym exercise/workouts after nissen op .. is this poss.

.. hoping nissen op will get me off ppis. Is this the case for u

.. post op; do u need to take any other meds for condition

In advance, thank u for your advice. Best. Gary

Each of us is different but in my case I had the fundoplication done back in around 1990, it helped but I was still on PPI's and still experienced some reflux etc but it was better than before. At the same time I was diagnosed with barretts so was monitored via endoscopies every 3 months until 2009 when the Cancer became apparent and I had on 22 Dec 09 an oesophagectomy . I no longer take any pills at all - sleep at a similar angle to you, but unlike so many on here I still need to eat every few hours to prevent problems, If i eat even biscuits every couple of hours everything is fine - if not I get bad acid reflux but of course you dont know until it is in your mouth and nose which is very unpleasant! - So to sum up, the op worked well for me but I stayed on PPI's (Cisapride and Lansoprazole) but now I am on nothing and am living a very good life. (I am now 59) with BP of around 115/75 and a heartrate of around 52 in fact I feel fitter now than I have ever been- but have of course got limitations :) Life is good !!
