Been in hospital the last week been told got a clot on the lung and infection. Prior to that I was stuck in bed for 3 weeks being breathless and pain in my back due to arthiritus. Had a ct scan all was ok accept showing a clot but put on warfarin and antibiotics. Had my oesophactomny in Dec 2013. Just wondered

has anyone else had problems like this.

Had my op Jan 2014, main problem is breathlessness; told by consultant my lungs are pristine & it will improve but, no sign of it yet...

Thks Mikey don't think our breathing will ever be the same due to the position of the diaphragm. Just a matter of time I think but how long we don't know.

I am sure you are right, however I cling on to what my consultant tells me, "it will get better" hope that is true for you also...

Take care,

mike

Blood clots on the lung do need expert attention. Sometimes they travel around the body and cause embolisms etc (a bit like deep vein thrombosis) but it sounds like the warfarin and antibiotics have been given to you to treat / disperse it.

It can be a worry until it clears up, and I hope that it gets sorted out OK

Thks for your reply Alan just seem to think its one problem after another. Try to keep brave face on but sometimes cant.

It does seem like you are always getting knock backs, and it is a great test of resilience for months on end. But hang on in there! There is a saying that you never get given problems that you cannot cope with; it is just that we have to draw on reserves of strength we never knew we had.

I had blood clots in both legs, not quite as serious as in the lungs, but I am also on Warfarin now. My op was in April 2012 and I still get breathless walking up stairs or hills. But off to Peru next year, that's going tot be a challenge. The breathing does getting a lot better with time. I joined a gym and was doing gym and swim two or three times a week, building up my stamina and fitness slowly.

But that's the main thing is being a patient patient. Everyone tells you this, but it is a long haul thing, you must give yourself time and listen to your oncology team. Mine are brilliant, good luck, I hope you are better real soon

Hi

My husband suffered a clot on his lung 3 months after his op when he was going through post op chemo. His oncologist stopped his final batch of chemo and he was put on blood thinning tablets for three months. These are finished now but in recent weeks he unfortunately got pneumonia. It seems to be a long battle to recover from the operation but hopefully you will get back on your feet soon. Good luck and take care.

Hi Col sorry to hear you have blood clot on the lung. I had a post chemo baseline scan last week (post oesophagectomy ) and that showed multiple blood clots on the lung. I have no symptoms but was banned from flying to the USA with my family for a holiday as the flight was too long. I have been told that PEs are relatively common happen 10% of the time. I have been put on Clexane which is a low molecular weight heparin. This will continue until further notice and I have yet to get a plan. I only share this with you to show that it is not unusual but would welcome any other comments on this situation. Thanks.
