I had a place on my left shoulder blade, like a little blob of fat that moved slightly under the skin. Doc told me it was a lipoma.

During my time in the hospital after my esophagectomy, it got very painful. It was infected, and my doc back home squeezed it out after a few days of antibiotics. It was a cyst that had gotten infected in the hospital.

Subcutaneous fat should not be painful unless it is infected. If it has redness and pain, it is best not to ignore it. Hospitals are great places for spreading infections.

Hope this helps.
