Hi Margie

Yes they do get easier with time. I used to be really worried at first but on the other hand wanting to know that I was ok because the scan was clear. but as the time goes on you will become more confident.

Kind Regards

Steve

I think it is inevitable that you worry about what the scans might show. But try to think, perhaps, that if it were not for knowing this date would you be having any twinges or concerns that made you feel that you were not making good progress? If not, then try not to worry too much. In time you do get used to your own body again.

Another thing might be that if you have digestive issues that you would like advice about, try and make a note of them so that you remember to check these things out with the medical team. Sometimes the result of the scan assumes such large proportions that you simply want to escape from the hospital with the good news that you forget to ask about other things.

Thank you Alan, I am sure the discomfort, twinges i am getting are due to the op but i'm now having twinges between my shoulder blades that i used to get before my diagnosis, but i keep telling myself it could now be due to the op I'm sure its nothing. I'm also hoping that after this scan i will only need one every 12 months.

Hi Margie. As you may recall we had our ops at about the same time last year at the same place. I am not due to have any scans but just a check up every 3 months. I am wondering if this is due to a different approach by our respective specialists? Best wishes, Martin

Hi Martin yes i remember hope you are doing well, maybe it is due to different approaches by the specialists, I am always nervous having the scans and i am terrible to live with whilst i'm waiting for the results! so snappy lol

Best wishes take care

Hello Margie & Martin. My apologies for the late response - I've been away and am only now catching up with what's been happening on this site. I am interested in what you say about the two different approaches to follow-up scans. I had my operation six years ago and was offered regular scans, but turned them down, because a) I did not wish to put myself through the worry of waiting for the results, and b) I was not convinced that they served any useful purpose. When I last saw my oncologist, he told me that it is now standard practice in many parts of the country not to offer scans, because they are generally not frequent enough to pick up any recurrence early enough, and it is now felt that it is better to tell patients what symptoms to look out for and ask them to contact their medical team if they have any concerns. You might wish to ask your oncologist what their view is on this and consider whether it is worth continuing with the scans. Good luck. G

Hi Spikey I am having frequent scans as i am in the research, I Didn't have the injection which cuts off the blood supply to the cancer but that was a good thing in my eyes as a side effect is heavy bleeding so i got to have my op sooner than i would have if i had been on the injections. Apparently i now have the CT scans for the rest of my life, which hopefully will be many years to come

Regards Marg

Regarding the twinges, sometimes a physiotherapist can help?

Hi, new to the site, I had my op in Sep 2011 and I still worry about things, I'm due an endoscopy next week for a bit of reassurance. I don't think it ever goes away you just learn to live with it. Do you findi helpful to know others are going through the same thing, Helen

Hi Nuttytreacle

The worries you are having are totally normal, we all have them. you will find with time you will feel more confident about things. I worried about every ache and twinge for the first 4 years its only natural we have been through cancer and a major operation. Its not that its helpful knowing others are going through the same thing but knowing you are not the only one feeling like this. It does get better with time , honest.

Kind Regards

Steve
