I can't say how long the side effects stay for, as everyone is different, and reacts differently, but usually with meds of this sort, initial side effects wear off in 4 to 6 weeks. There may be longer term side effects, but this does vary. If after say 6 weeks the side effects are really bad, ask your doctor or psychiatrist if something else might suit you better.
Many thanks
I 've been on it for a week now 15mg and I think the side effects are beginning to wear off
That's good!
The only problem is drowsiness in the morning I am wondering if 7.5 mg is enough for OCD
I've just checked the NHS write up on mirtazapine and it says the usual starting dose is 15 mg to 30 mg, and can be increased to 45 mg. I don't think that 7.5 mg is likely to be very effective. If the drowsiness gets too much, perhaps another SSRI might work better for you. But don't stop the mirtazapine suddenly.
I took a medication called clomipramine for many years, and it made me feel constantly dopey, though it worked well apart from that. Although I rather got used to it, it came as a relief when I was switched to sertraline, which doesn't make me feel dopey!
HI
