Ha ha Sorry to laugh but I think someone is taking the pee. While I realise different doctors prefer different steroids I've not heard of one lasting that long.

I get a general Kenalog injection into my bottom every 3mth, it usually lasts about 6 wks then I have 6wks counting down to the next one.

Thanx, I did think it was rather a long while! Think she was fobbing me off, and she was only the secretary! No probs, I was one for a while but you are not the expert. I feel pretty good at the minute so hope it continues. Not sure what to expect in Sept though as he will assess medication to put me on again.

Oh I don't know I was an administrator/PA and picked up quite a bit, but what she's told you just sounds dumb.

Good luck with the medication assessment. x

Thank you for your reply, I was also admin/PA in the RAF, years ago. I will see how I go and will get in touch with them if it gets too much, have the naproxen to take if needed.

I think sometimes they live in a different world. As a rheumy sec. she probably only know what she has been told by the medical fraternity.

I had an assessment by one of our GP's (our's is a GP training surgery) recently for the blue badge. We were talking about my being on steroid injections and she told me that 'they last for 3 to 5 months' I shook my head and told her 'it's more like 6 weeks in my case - 3 weeks for the best result then 3 weeks going back to being more painful' and then 6 weeks painfully waiting for the next one. She replied 'really'. Don't know if she took that on board, I do hope so.

I take tramadol for the pain when the steroid injection is wearing off which I have found helps me. There are loads of different pain 'stuffs' out there you just need to be persistent in trying them if something is not working, try seeing your GP or get your rheumy nurse to ring you back and speak to her/him, they may be more supportive.

It's 3-4 weeks for me - then the pains start coming back gradually. At 6 weeks they are getting pretty bad. I am on oral steroids aswell but they don't seem to do anything at all! Still waiting to try another DMARD - hopefully soon. Good luck with enlightening the ignorant receptionist! x

Hi, I had my appointment with the specialist nurse last week and asked this question. She advised me that the injections tend to last 4-6 weeks. I was worried about what to do if I had a flare before my next appointment and she advised me they run an "SOS" clinic twice a week for giving emergency steroid jabs. Maybe your rheumy dept has something similar?
