What side effects are you getting with the pills?

I was moved onto injections from the pills because I was extremely nauseous, had a sore throat, mouth ulcers and oral thrush and therefore wasn't managing to eat anything! I sometimes feel a bit sicky and sometimes get a headache after my injections but nothing like I used to get with the pills. I hope they work out as well for you as they did for me xx

Hiya for me I have less nausea on injections although I have problems the 'other end' now :( hoping the increased dose via injection is more effective which it normally is. I (as a needle phobic) am now self injecting (very proud!!!) and most people manage it. I just have a minor site reaction a week after but nothing serious. My consultant said the injections are more effective so good luck! x

Hi Julie, MTX by injection is getting more and more popular because of the de-crease in side effects it seems to suit many people. I've taken MTX for many many years started first on tablet form then went onto injection, I have however always suffered with headaches and nausea they have lessened slightly having the injection. We are all different but for most injection seems to be the best in reducing side effects.

Good luck

Mandy xx

Hi julie

I lost my appetite and felt nauseous on tabs. Injection took that away mostly.

still thinned my hair though. Good luck

Hi Julie, I was switched to the injections 2 years ago because of the side effects of the tablets. Each week a day of throwing up so I do wonder if the tablets had any chance to take effect! Very few side effects with the injections - just be careful otherwise you can get discolouration of the injection site (which I have had from time to time - usually caused by running the injection just under the skin instead of deeper by mistake, or in a hurry!) Like Sparkle, my hair has thinned as well although that is partly caused by cancer treatments and thyroid disease. I now have extensions to thicken my hair which is great although expensive. I very rarely feel sick now with the injections. If you are going abroad, you will need to carry the syringes in your hand luggage with a letter from your GP. I have never had a problem going through security and I also travel with a medipen containing my anti TNF Enbrel which the plane crew put into the fridge for me. (also with a letter).

Best of luck. LavendarLady

hi like the others I have less side effects with the injections, I also inject before going to bed at night as I find I sleep off most of the side effects, the one I can't seem to get rid of is mouth ulcers, but I use bonjela the adult one and use mouthwash through the day.

good luck with the injections let us know how you get on

Hi Julie

It's a case of each to his own with this one! Many people tolerate the oral methotrexate without significant problems whereas others don't! I have been on oral for 9/10 years with no real issues with side effects.

Injections go straight into the bloodstream so you benefit from the maximum dose whereas with oral some is lot in the process. Some people note side effects with injections and revert back to oral.

One isn't better than the other because we all react differently. Think you will need to try it and see what feels best for you. good luck! :)

Thank you all for comments. The only real side effects i have is on oral is a day or two of diahorrea and bad mouth ulcers which prevent me from eating and drinking most of the time (great for losing weight but not for my diabetes) which is why they are changing me to injections. Will have to just see how it goes but thanks. Jules xx

I started on mxt tablets 9 yrs ago. Moved on to injs when flare ups getting more frequent. The injs helped with the flares but I became very lightheaded on them so now back on injs. Like Lyn said, it varies from person to person. Give it a try. You can always change again. Good luck.
