Posteir scalitis
Hi
Sorry, not sure if auto-correct has done something to your post, or if I've got the wrong end of the stick!
Do you by any chance mean Posterior Scleritis? Apologies if not!
Yes thanks for the correction, either way it's total white light blinding, very scary and painful yet another piece of the R A puzzle. Thanks.
Sorry- just seen your response. Unfortunately I've had problems relating to RA and various inflammatory eye issues. It has ultimately resulted the loss of sight in one eye. Amongst those issues, I've had relapsing Scleritis. I will make it clear though, the Scleritis was in no way responsible for the sight loss - just to re-assure you!
Scleritis is horrible though and very painful. When I've had it, the white (conjunctiva) of my eye generally goes red. I've found the pain of Scleritis very distinctive. It is like a really deep ache that feels like it bores right into the eye. It also tends to get get worse overnight in bed (which I think is quite normal with it). Also, sometimes, if you were to very lightly press on the eyeball, it is very tender. I don't know if that's anything like your experience?
Topical treatments like steroid drops can help, but in my experience they normally have to increase the systemic medication to bring it back under control. Most commonly, this will be an increase in oral steroids. I don't know if you are on a biologic? I think the hope is that a lot of biologics should help control it too, so that less people now should develop it. Having said that though, I have had a couple of relapses even with Humira. The most effective drug I've had (and still have) with regard to eye issues is Cyclosporin. It's not used that much now, but can be helpful. Like everything though, it does have its side effects and after about 27 years on it, I do have some kidney damage. That has been over a long period though. Interestingly, the couple of times in recent years when the Scleritis has relapsed, it had coincided with attempts at reducing the Cyclosporin. Docs seem to be leaving well alone with it at present!
Hope that helps, and I hope you have been given treatment to help get it under control 😊
That’s what I thought.....dreaded predictive text!
So far I just have a bit of sjorgens, and no scleritis. But if it is this it sounds horrid so I hope you have a good ophthalmologist.
