Adding caffeine to reduce ill effects of mtx!

Well, now I've heard everything! I was reading Twitter this morning and a consultant rheumatologist from Bury St Edmunds and Cambridge, David OReilly, posted this! Somebody commented that this study had been carried out previously in 2016/2017. Makes an interesting read. link.springer.com/article/1...

Hardly a fantastic success...but if Mtx works well without side effects it really is very effective ......so if you were suffering & there was no reason you shouldn’t eat chocolate or drink coffee could be worth a try?

After all ......look at the often daft/horrible potions people do try to beat side effects!

Well interesting, I have very mild side effects and I do have 4 to 5 strong cups of coffee each day. Perhaps there’s something to it.

I will get my son to try this , he doesn’t like coffee or dark chocolate but he might try it if it would help the nausea!!!

I'm not saying it will work...but who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️

Oh my goodness, this is spooky!! Since January I've been increasing my dose of MTX every 4 weeks, up to 25mg. I was dreading it because I always felt sick and had a headache at 17.5mg. However, i started to get really strong cravings for coffee after being a tea drinker all my life. So started drinking coffee. Low and behold, my side effects not only didn't worsen as the MTX increased, they virtually disappeared - and until now I never knew why. Thank you!

🙄 one clinic nurse told me to reduce caffeine or give it up all together 🤷🏽‍♀️

That's exactly what I was told by my rheumy nurse.

I'm not convinced either tbh...but maybe for Dobcross1, it may have 🤷🏻‍♀️

It worked for my OH. When he was on mtx I plied him with strong coffee just before and the day following mtx. It definitely helped fatigue. Different for everyone of course.

That's really interesting, thanks for sharing.

That's just weird. I practically lived on coffee and mocked decaffeinated as a waste of time. RD happened. On MTX the nausea built from nothing to awful. I read an article saying that caffeine and MTX were a bad mix so tried the decaffeinated and, bingo, all was (mostly) back to normal. Each to their own I suppose
