Does anyone take Omoperazole while taking MXT ?

I've been taking Omeperazole since starting RA meds and yes took them when I was on MTX, although have come off MTX at least a couple I years ago. I'm still taking Omeperazole.

Hi Nellysgran been on Omoperazole since 2006, started one a day now because of the increase in Declofenic, taking it 3 times a day also still on the Metho. 22.5mg.

Omaprazole can contraindicate with MTX because it's a proton pump inhibitor - it says so on the MTX info sheet I think - but if this happens to you then you could switch to another stomach protector like Zantac which doesn't have this effect. RArebird x

Hi there. I also take it with 22.5 mg of MTX and haven't had any problems. Before I took it I used to get horrible heartburn but all fine now! I'm sure the consultants must know if it's an ok combination?!

yes I take it to. it's to protect your stomach from all the other drugs , it is contra indicated with mtx as it can inhibit the excretion of mtx but as far as I understand at the doses taken for RA it is not a problem , more of an issue for people taking it at chemotherapy doses . but check with doc as I may be wrong x

I queried this when I was back to get a repeat prescription after trying Omperozole . I understand the problem is with the high doses of methotrexate used in chemotherapy. The dose for RA is a fraction of the chemotherapy one.

Yes I take it too. First had it prescribed when I was taking naproxen. I stopped it a while after I stopped taking the naproxen and was ok for a bit. In the last few months though I've been getting horrible heartburn and reflux, the only thing I'm taking is 20mg of mtx (and folic acid) so it must be the mtx causing it. Now take the omeprasole again and I'm fine. Rx

I've been on Omoperazole, MTX and other medications for many years. I've had no problems.

I always use the drug interactions checker on Drugs.com and, although I have been prescribed Omeprazole, I don't actually take it and it is worth talking to your doctor about these 2 drugs

Thank you all for your replies, I was on Lansoperazole but after visiting my Gp last week she changed to Omoperazole then I read on the paper with the meds that you shouldn't take with MXT, but now I see that many of you are taking both, thanks again, now not sure what the difference is between the two ??

I take MTX and Omeperazole, and I feel fine. My nurse told me that the Omeperazole is to help digestion . It certainly helps me. I hope you have the same advantage. XX

HI Ive been on Omeprazole since Aug 2012, I was put on it when I was put on Naproxen. I got diagnosed with RA Jan last year & take it along with MTX,Hydroxy,Sulpha, folic acid also. Don't seem to be having any problems with it, Gp seems happy as been on it nearly 18 months.

I was taking omeprazole from 2007 till last summer when I started getting very bad stomach upset that went on for quite a few weeks---I stopped taking omeprazole & problems stopped. I have been on rituximab since 2010 plus hydroxychloroquine tabs. So for pain killers I take paracetamol & co-codamol---not at the same time!

Hi! I take that and sucralfate 1 GM pill 2 times a day to protect my stomach. So I'm goo with that!!!

Hi nellysgran, I have been on omeprazol 20mg twice a day for many years, due to GERD, I have recently been prescribed MTX, but not yet taken them due to a viral infection, but the Rheumy nurse told me to leave 4 hours between the two meds., because of the interactions.
