3 tips for managing my child's symptoms and experiences

At this point, if my child experiences symptoms, it's usually a trip to the ER, so I'll focus on managing his experiences. My child is a 6 year old, he is delayed, and he is post transplant.

1. Get yourself a good alarm app for your phone. I use the alarm to remind me of med times (and I do not shut it off until the meds have been given), feed times (he's tube fed on a schedule), etc. I have a separate alarm app that's our Pee Alarm (he is supposed to pee every 2 hours, so I start that one when he pees first thing in the morning and it beeps every 2 hours).

2. Learn how your child likes things. Does your child like to have lots of preparation in advance, or does that stress your child out? Some kids prefer not to learn that they're going to get a shot until right before it happens, for example, whereas some kids prefer to learn a day in advance so they can get ready. My own child prefers LOTS of advance prep. He likes to know EXACTLY what is going to happen. And he wants to watch. (I have to fend off Child Life people who try to block his view.)

3. Learn as much as you can about what your child is dealing with.
