On a scale of 0 to 5, how much do you kn... - Kidney Transplant
On a scale of 0 to 5, how much do you know about living donation?
0, is “I’ve never heard of living donation” and 5, is “I am considered a living donation expert by others”.
I had a living donor and the whole adventure has gone well for the last 5+ years. We are both well, 20 years of PKD nonsense went away in 4 days, and the meds and I get along.
For the past few years I've been teaching a highly interactive class at my transplant center (and more recently with a dialysis company) on "How to Find a Living Donor."
Are you rclasses virtual? Would love to attend virtually. My son is trying to be a living donor for me, but in the end he may not meet all the critieria they have set for him. At least not in time for me. I feel I need to continue looking for another living donor in case he falls through the cracks. I have never been good at fundraising or asking people for donations of any kind, so feel very lost in this process. I have taken an online course at Baylor, but that does not give specifics, more of an overview.
Being a kidney transplant recipient, I wasn’t aware I could be a donor
I received a live donor from my sister in 2016 , unfortunately it had to be removed 3 days later due to a blood clot. My sister was fine and is doing great. I ended getting a deceased donor in 2020. I’m in Ireland so criteria and rules around living donors are different from America. So if anyone has questions from this side of the pond.

My brother donated a kidney to me and we just celebrated our 3 year kidneyversary last week. Both of us are doing well so far. Yay!
I am a living donor to my wife, even though we only had 1 antigen match. We had the operation in 2003 and she is still doing well with the kidney, but always struggles with the side effects if the powerful immuno-suppressant drugs.
