Hi..

My mother has serious BURNING FEET for around six years. she has been taking every medical tests[thyroid, neurotic type , diabetic test and so on..] through out once she had . she took every medications which the doctors has prescribed so far. But still now there is no improvements in her problem ,every night she feels hard[struggle] to sleep and that made her mentally weak too. I just want to know the reason for her disorder. If anyone had these type of experience and got cured please help us to know the reason and therapy.

she once had diabetic which is totally normal now by some diets . she took nerve tablets like[gabapentin ,dulodep 20mg ] and diabetic tablets like [tenglyn, glysurge ] none of this above tablets are working for her burning feet . she is taking"prothiaden 50mg" which the doctor has prescribed now . we are hoping some improvements in her health ,we need our mother to be normal as everyone .

thank you .

Hi dreamrime 😊🌿🌸🦋

I’m so sorry your mother is suffering from this.

I have had burning feet 🦶 since childhood. Back then the stormy weather in Summer made it flare so severely that the swelling and pain made it almost impossible to stand or walk. It also caused my knees to be the same in my teenage years then it progressed to my whole body by age 20.

By then it worsened slowly each decade it evolved until the worst stage I’m currently in.

In 2014 my #1 Neurologist at the University of Michigan USA 🇺🇸 tested my DNA twice plus conferred with other colleagues that I have the rarest form of Erythromelalgia (EM). Mine is inherited from my late mother. It took me 64 years to get my diagnosis. My IEM is also triggered by salt/sodium intake.

I understand about your mother’s sleep difficulty as this is a common complaint/symptom. I haven’t slept in my bed since 2014; I catnap in my office chair.

I have been taking gabapentin for at least 10 years. I’m sorry your mother wasn’t helped by it.

My U of M neurologist prescribed Lidocaine ointment to rub on my feet at night before bedtime. I tried this but the ointment trapped the heat in so I switched to Aspercreme with lidocaine lotion instead.

I apply it to slightly damp skin and use it on the bottoms of my feet instead of the tops.

It works for me. It takes about 20+ minutes to absorb effectively for myself.

She also prescribed Paxil 20mg to control my worst daily flares that triggers my whole body and especially my head which affects my breathing. Paxil was originally made for depression but has since then been used for other conditions too. It works wonders for me as I’ve only had a few of the worst breakthrough flares involving my head and lungs.

There are two websites to visit for info on EM/IEM. They are:

NORD.org and. The Erythromelalgia Association. org

I hope this info will be helpful in finding your mother some relief.

If she has EM sadly there is no cure.

I pray that your mother will do better soon.

Because EM/IEM is so rare afflicted patients families/friends find it difficult to believe it exists. Stress is also a factor in making these conditions worsen.

I just said a special prayer for her.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Best wishes for a good/great outcome.

Paxil worked wonders for my burning feet, unfortunately the side effects of worsening my RLS and sexual side effects led me to switch. Many other antidepressants have worked to some extent over the years if I am able to tolerate the other stuff that comes along with it.

Hi dreamrime so sorry to hear about your mother. Neuropathy can be so uncomfortable especially at night. I have this to with no found cause or treatment that works and have tried almost everything but I have found wearing bed socks in bed helps we sleep. I can't bare the covers to touch my heels or top of my feet but the bed socks must cushion this in some way. Not a cure I'm sorry but helps me sleep. Hope it may help your mother.
